GRAMMAR
Making suggestions
We use should, let’s, why don't we and how about to make suggestions and offer ideas or plans.

PRONUNCIATION
Word stress in compound nouns. CD01-30
 A compound noun is made up of two or more words. They can be written in one word (peanut),
with a space (hot dog) or with a hyphen between words (make-up).
 We usually put the stress on the first word in a compound noun.

WHY VOLUNTEERING
Hi! My name is Tom. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to volunteer. I am now a
member of different voluntary groups, and I take different roles. These roles are simple, like taking old
people for a walk-in nursing homes and running activities for children at an after-school club. I enjoy
volunteering, and I encourage others to join charity events as soon as possible. Here are some

Spelling rules for -ed endings of regular verbs in the Past simple
• For most of the verbs, we add -ed to the verbs

I spent the last two weeks volunteering at a beach clean-up. It was an amazing
experience. My roles included keeping the beach clean and reminding people not
to litter. I met a lot of interesting people in my team, and we had a great time
together. We worked in the mornings and afternoons. At night, we had parties
and gathered around fires.

Volunteering at the New Nepal Society was such a pleasure, and the
experience was incredible. In just a few days, I met so many kind and generous
people, and I am forever thankful for this. I am also proud of myself because I
