Syllabus STAT+52300 Spring+2023
SOFTWARE: The computer software used in this class is SAS (Statistical Analysis System).
Most of the SAS codes needed for this class are already given in the textbook.
REQUIRED WORK: Evaluation is based on about 7 homework assignments (30 points each), 1 in-
class test (80 points) and 2 take-home tests (80 points each) requiring computer
work. There will not be a comprehensive final exam. Homework assignments
and the take-home tests should be submitted through Canvas. You may discuss
homework problems with your classmates, but you must write up and
submit solutions independently. As for the take-home tests, you are not
allowed to discuss the problems and must do them independently.
COVID-19 POLICY: Stay home and get tested if you're sick or have symptoms of COVID-19. If your
test is positive, follow isolation instructions. If your test is negative but you
continue to feel unwell and have symptoms, stay home until you're feeling
better to prevent spreading any illness to others.
ATTENDANCE: In-person class attendance is required. You can attend the class through Zoom
only when you must stay home due to Covid or illness and get permission
from your instructor.
EVALUATION: Grades will be assigned using an absolute scale based on attained
percentage score: A ≥ 90% > B ≥ 80% > C ≥ 70% > D ≥ 60% > F,
with “+” and “-” attached for scores falling in the upper and
lower third of the range, respectively.
INCOMPLETES: Grades of Incomplete (I) will be given only in exceptional circumstances. An
incomplete cannot be given to a student who is not passing the course for
whatever reason. Any Incomplete which is not removed within one calendar
year is automatically changed to an F.
WITHDRAWALS: If you should decide to withdraw from this course for any reason whatsoever,
be sure to process all paperwork by the appropriate deadline outlined in the
following table (Details at https://studentcentral.iupui.edu/calendars/official-
calendar.html ). Failure to do so will result in a grade of F. After the 3/4 mark
of the semester, course instructors cannot sign a drop slip. The student must
see the Associate Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The
School of Science Dean’s Office will not endorse a withdrawal after the 3/4
mark of the semester for students unless an extremely serious and
documentable excuse is established.

advisable. Changes will be announced in class. It is your responsibility to keep up with any
