NUMERICALS BASED ON POTENTIAL:
1.Find the electric potential at the surface of an atomic nucleus (Z=50) of radius 𝟗 × 𝟏𝟎−𝟏𝟑 cm. (Given
charge on a proton= 𝟏. 𝟔 × 𝟏𝟎−𝟏𝟗 C.)(2.6,2)
2.Electric field intensity at point B due to a point charge Q kept at point A is 24N/C and the electric potential
at point B due to some charge is 12 J/C .Calculate the distance AB and also the magnitude of charge

3. To what potential we must charge an insulated sphere of radius 14cm so that the surface charge density
is equal to 1𝝁C/𝒎𝟐 (2.6,6)
4.A charge of 24𝝁𝑪 is given to a hollow metallic sphere of radius 0.2m .Find the potential

1.A short electric dipole has dipole moment of 𝟒 × 𝟏𝟎−𝟗 Cm.Determine the electric potential due to the
dipole at a point distance 0.3m from the centre of the dipole situated (a) on the axial line (b)on equatorial
line and (c) on a line making an angle of 𝟔𝟎𝟎 with the dipole axis(2.8,12)
2.Two point charges of + 3𝝁𝑪 and - 3𝝁𝑪 are placed 𝟐 × 𝟏𝟎−𝟑 m apart from each other .Calculate
(i)Electric filed and electric potential at a distance of 0.6m from the dipole in broad -side on position
(ii)Electric field and electric potential at the same point after rotating the dipole through 𝟗𝟎𝟎 (2.8,14)
3.Two charges -q and +q are located at points A(0,0,-a) and B (0,0+a) respectively.How much work is

NUMERICALS BASED ON POTENTIAL ENERGY DUE TO A SYSTEM OF CHARGES:


1.Three charges -q +Q and -q are placed at equal distances on a straight line .If the potential energy of the

2.Three point charges are arranged as shown in figure .What is their mutual potential energy?Take

3.Find the amount of work done in arranging the three point charges on the verices of an equilateral

NUMERICALS BASED ON POTENTIAL ENERGY OF A DIPOLE AND TORQUE


1. An electric dipole consists of two opposite charges each of magnitude 1𝝁C separated by 2cm
.The dipole is placed in an external electric field of 𝟏𝟎𝟓 N/C .Find (i)The maximum torque exerted
by the filed on the dipole (ii)The work which the external agent will have to do in turning the
dipole through 𝟏𝟖𝟎𝟎 starting from the position 𝜽 = 𝟎𝟎 (2.22,14)
2. An electric dipole of length 4cm , when placed with its axis making an angle of 𝟔𝟎𝟎 with a
uniform electric field experiences a torque of 4√𝟑Nm.Calculate the (i)Magnitude of the electric
field (ii) potential energy of the dipole ,if the dipole has charge of ±8nC(2.21,30)

2. In a parallel plate capacitor ,the capacitance increases from 4𝜇F to 80 𝜇F,on introducing a

3. A parallel plate capacitor with air between the plates has a capacitance of 8pF.The separation
between the plates is now reduced by half and the space between them is filled with a dielectric
medium of dielectric constant 5 .Calculate the value of capacitance of the capacitor in the second

1.A parallel plate capacitor is charged by a battery.After some time the battery is disconnected
and a dielectric slab with its thickness equal to the plate separation is inserted between the plates .
What change ,if any will take place in (i)charge on the plates (ii)electric filed intensity between the plates
(iii)The capacitance of the capacitor (iv)potential difference between the plates and (v)The energy stored in

COMINATION:
1.Obtain the equvivalent capacitance of the network shown in figure .For a 300V supply,determine the
