Concept of internet and its evolution. Hardware and software requirement. How
internet works? Application and use of internet in various fields of Science and
Technology. Specification and technical details for establishing internet.
What is a modem? Types and functions of modem. Concept of IP Address, internet
domains, domain name server, TCP/IP protocol, ISP, intranet, extranet. How DNS
woks?
Ways: Dial up connection, Broadband, ISDN, Leased line, VSAT, RF link, cable.
Their Hardware and software requirements, relative advantages.
WWW and its evolution, web page, web server, HTTP protocol. Web Browser:
Netscape and internet explorer to surf internet. Concept of URL, Hypertext,
hyperlinks, hypermedia, search engines, proxy servers.
