DETAILED OUTLINE

Topic: SOCIAL NETWORKING IN LEARNING.

Sub-topic: IMPACTS OF SOCIAL NETWORKING IN LEARNING.

I. INTRODUCTION
1. Hook:

Social media is becoming increasingly common in daily life, especially in the field of
education.

2. Background Information:
- Over the past twenty years, social networking has evolved from a social
novelty to a vital aspect of everyday life, impacting education as well as
other areas of society. Social networking sites (SNS) including Facebook,
Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more niche platforms like Edmodo have
changed how people communicate and share information. Students,
instructors, and educational institutions can interact, collaborate, and engage
in a multitude of ways through these networks. The effects of digital
platforms on learning environments, student engagement, academic
achievement, and even mental health are thus being studied more and more
by researchers and educators.

- Peer support, simple access to knowledge, and interactive tools that promote
active learning are the main reasons why social networking is being
incorporated into educational settings. Students can share materials, talk
about tasks, and exchange ideas outside of the traditional classroom thanks
to social networking. Furthermore, through online lectures, expert
discussions, and educational groups, social platforms give students access to
a multitude of knowledge that can greatly improve their academic
experience.

- But there are hazards and concerns associated with social networking's
development in education. Because social media has a high propensity to
cause procrastination, some study suggests that excessive usage of the
platform might cause distractions, shorten attention spans, and degrade
academic performance. Concerns about cybersecurity, privacy, and the
dissemination of false information are also major issues when using these
platforms for teaching. The "social comparison" phenomenon is another
dispute, where students may feel under pressure from their classmates' posts
and achievements, which could affect their mental health and sense of self.

- Despite these obstacles, social networking has unquestionable potential to

improve learning outcomes. Educators and policymakers are currently
attempting to harness the positive aspects of social networking, developing
frameworks and recommendations for safe and productive use in educational
settings. This involves introducing social media training into school
curricula to ensure that children understand the opportunities and appropriate
usage of these platforms.

- The purpose of this research is to investigate the various effects of social

networking on learning, evaluating both its benefits and drawbacks. It will
also investigate ways for increasing good impacts while limiting potential
hazards, with the ultimate goal of understanding how social networking can
be used as an effective learning tool. The paper's goal is to provide insights
on how social networking can be used to benefit modern education by
providing students with useful digital skills and establishing a collaborative,
well-informed learning community.
3. Thesis statement
This essay will focus on two elements of using social media in education:
the positives and the negatives.
II. BODY
1. Main point 1: Possitive sides
- Enhanced Communication and Collaboration:
Social networking tools allow students and teachers to communicate and
collaborate outside of the traditional classroom setting. Students can
collaborate with their classmates and professors on group discussions,
assignments, and projects, developing a sense of cooperation and
community. Group chats, discussion boards, and collaborative documents on
platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn enable students to
exchange knowledge, provide comments, and clarify questions in real time.

- Access a wealth of information and resources:

Social networking allows for simple access to a wide range of educational
content, including academic publications, research papers, instructional
videos, and webinars. Platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn
Learning allow students to gain a deeper grasp of subjects by seeing content
provided by professionals from across the world. This greater access to
knowledge allows students to investigate topics in depth at their own pace,
facilitating self-directed learning.

- Supportive Learning Communities

Many social networking sites have groups and communities dedicated to
specific academic disciplines or professional professions, allowing students
to interact with like-minded people. These online learning groups provide a
forum for students to ask questions, discuss hard issues, and help one
another academically. The sense of belonging and shared interest can be
particularly beneficial for students studying in remote or online settings,
where face-to-face interaction is limited.
2. Main point 2: Negative sides
- Distraction and Reduced Focus:
One of the primary disadvantages of social networking in educational settings is the risk
of distraction. Social media sites are supposed to be interesting, therefore students
frequently spend time on non-academic content such as videos, memes, and personal
messages. This constant flow of information might diminish students' focus and attention
span, making it harder to concentrate on their studies or retain information over time.

- Risk of cyberbullying and harassment:

Cyberbullying is a serious issue on social networking sites, where kids may suffer
harassment or bullying from their classmates. Negative comments, personal attacks, and
public humiliation can harm students' mental health and self-esteem. Cyberbullying can
create a toxic learning environment, making students less likely to participate, share their
thoughts, or interact with classmates online.

- Decreased Face-to-Face Interaction and Communication Skills:

Overreliance on social networking for communication can reduce students' in-person
social skills. Online interactions lack the depth and nuances of face-to-face
communication, and students may miss out on developing essential skills such as body
language interpretation, eye contact, and empathetic listening. This reliance on digital
communication can hinder their ability to interact confidently and effectively in real-
world settings.
3. Main point 3: Creating a better learning achievement
- Integrate into the modern learning environment:
+ Getting increasingly diversified, and students are expected more than
before
+ According to Lu (2013), middle school children with good English
scores favor visual and auditory learning, but kinesthetic learning styles
had no impact on English results.
+ English ability of Vietnamese students or university graduates still has
some limitations.
+ For instance, English ability of Vietnamese students or university
graduates still has some limitations.
+ Recognizing students’ learning preference help both materials makers
and teachers to assess and guide the learners learning strategies
manipulated in various situations.
- Prepare to further career:
+ The globe has been preoccupied with developments throughout the
previous few decades.
+ Prepare further career is to build up a democratic learning
environment.
+ Should take appropriate action against the things that restrict them
from the language limitations.
III. Conclusion
Restate the thesis statement

In conclusion, education in the revolution era 4.0 requires students to have 21st
century skills. Despite the fact that the patterns differed from auditory, visual,
kinaesthetic affect to individual styles of learning.

Summary

Matching teaching styles to students’ learning styles would increase students’

language development:
+ A good learning attitude.

+ A optimal learning strategy.

+ Leading to more effective and competitive learning environments.

Suggestion

Knowledge of learning styles cannot be able to eliminate all problems in

interpreting the learning process and other difficulties in foreign language
teaching.

Prediction

To achieve a better result in English teaching for education, teachers

must balance learning styles with other human variations such as learners'
personality, language aptitude, and so on.
