Linux Client Installation:

1. Insert Entry of Client in Hostfile of Master and Media Server


2. Insert Entry of Master and Media servers in client’s Hostfile.
3. Extract and Run the Client Package with tar –xvf
4. Run ./install
5. When the following message appears, press Enter to continue:

Installing NetBackup Client Software Please………………..
Do you wish to continue? [y,n] (y)
6. Type y and press Enter to continue with the software installation.
Do you want to install the NetBackup client software for this client? [y,n] (y)
7. Type the name of your NetBackup primary server and press Enter to continue.
Enter the name of the NetBackup primary server:
8. Confirm the NetBackup client name and press Enter to continue.
9. (Conditional) Enter one or more media servers if prompted:
Enter the media servers (one per line) or X to skip the question. Enter Q to indicate all
media servers have been entered.
10. After you confirm you want to continue, the installer fetches the certificate authority
certificate details. Getting CA certificate details. Depending on the network, this action
may take a few minutes. To continue without setting up secure communication, press
Ctrl+C.
11. When prompted, review the fingerprint information and confirm that it is accurate.
Primary server [primary_name] reports CA Certificate fingerprint [fingerprint]. Is this
correct? [y/n] (y)
12. If installation asks for token then Generate a token in Master Server from the Certificate
Mgt and Enter that Token generated from Master Server.
13. After the installation is complete, select Exit from this Script.
14. Do Entry of Media server in bp.conf file. (/usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file)
15. Restart NBU services on client.
16. After installation, open NBU GUI and add client "for backup and run a test backup.

Making Boot Server:


1. Go into the following directory:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/
2. ./bmrsetupboot –register
Check boot server in Master Server GUI, Go to NBU GUI in
BMR Mgt→Hosts→Boot servers.

SRT creation on client:


For Linux SRTs, the Bare Metal Restore third-party products CD.(This CD contains the open
source products that may not be included in the vendor Linux distribution)
To create a Linux SRT
1. On the boot server where you want to create the SRT, change to the following
directory:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin
2. Enter the following command:
./bmrsrtadm
3. After creating SRT run the ./bmrsrtadm command again to create a bootable SRT

Restoring the client:


1. Run Discovery from BMR Mgt in NBU GUI for the client.

PTD(Prepare to Discover)
To discover a configuration using the NetBackup Administration console
1 In the Bare Metal Restore Management node, click Actions > Prepare to
Discover.
2. In the Prepare to Discover dialog box, complete the fields and enter data as
necessary.
If you select a client in the Hosts > Bare Metal Restore Clients view, the
values for that client are included in the dialog box.
Note: If a client is the target of a dissimilar disk restore (DDR) and VxVM
manages the protected client’s disks, specify an SRT with VxVM installed.
3. Click OK.
4. Boot the client to start the hardware discovery operation.
You can see the discovered configuration with the given name under
Bare Metal Restore Management > Resources > Discovered Configurations menu.
5. After Discovery is Successful then run PTR.

PTR(Prepare to Restore)
To prepare a client for restore using the NetBackup Administration console
1. In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand Bare Metal Restore

Management > Hosts > Bare Metal Restore Clients.

2. Select a client or a client configuration.

3. Select Actions > Prepare to Restore.

4. In the Prepare to Restore Client dialog box, select the appropriate values for

the restore.

Some fields may be completed depending on whether you selected a client or a client configuration.

If some other PTR options are selected, See “BMR disk recovery behavior”

on page 90.

5. Click OK.

Bare Metal Restore runs all the processes to prepare for a restore.

6. After the processes finish, in the dialog box that appears, click OK.
The client is listed in the Bare Metal Restore Tasks in Queued state. The Prepare-To-Restore step may
take few minutes to complete.
