EEE 5103 POWER SYSTEMS ANALYSIS 1
ASSIGNMENT DATE: JULY 2023

a. In the two-bus system shown in Figure below, bus 1 is a slack bus with 𝑉1 =
1∠00 pu. A load of 150MW and 50 Mvar is taken from bus 2. The line
admittance is 𝑦12 = 10∠−73.740 pu on a base of 100 MVA. The expression for
real and reactive power at bus 2 is given by
𝑃2 = 10|𝑉2 ||𝑉1 | cos(105.260 − 𝛿2 + 𝛿1 ) + 10|𝑉2 |2 cos(−73.740 )
𝑄2 = −10|𝑉2 ||𝑉1 | sin (105.260 − 𝛿2 + 𝛿1 ) − 10|𝑉2 |2 sin(−73.740 )
Using Newton-Raphson method, obtain the voltage magnitude and phase
angle of bus 2. Start with an initial estimate of|𝑉2 |(0) = 1.0 pu and|𝛿2 |(0) =
0(0) . Perform two iterations only.

b. The Figure below shows a 3-bus system. Obtain the voltage magnitude and angles at
buses 2 and 3 using Gauss-Seidel method. Perform three iterations only. Impedances are
(0) (0)
given on 100 MVA base. Assume 𝑉2 = 1.00∠00 and 𝑉3 = 1.03∠00

CAT 2
a. Obtain the load flow solution at the end of first iteration of the system shown in Figure below
with data as given in Tables below using Gauss-Seidel method. All buses except bus 1 are PQ
Buses.

c. Obtain the power flow solution for the three-bus network shown in figure below using fast
decoupled power flow method. Perform one iteration only. Let the initial voltages guess be
(0) (0)
𝑉1 = 1.05∠0 and 𝑉2 = 1.05∠0
