Project Proposal of DLD
Project Proposal of DLD
COURSE NAME:
The proposed project aims to design and implement a Digital 12-Hour Clock using digital logic integrated
circuits (ICs) without the use of a microcontroller. The project leverages digital electronics principles to
create a reliable and accurate timekeeping system with a focus on simplicity and efficiency. In today's
digital era, the need for standalone timekeeping devices remains significant. This project addresses this
need by developing a 12-hour digital clock using digital logic ICs, catering to applications where
microcontrollers may not be suitable or desired.
Objectives:
1. Design a Clock Circuit:
• Develop a digital circuit to generate and display time in a 12-hour format.
• Implement a crystal oscillator for accurate timekeeping.
2. Utilize Digital Logic ICs:
• Employ counters, decoders, and other digital logic ICs to create a robust clock circuit.
• Minimize reliance on microcontrollers for increased reliability.
3. Display Interface:
• Interface with 7-segment displays to present hours and minutes.
• Implement multiplexing techniques for efficient display control.
4. Time Accuracy:
• Achieve accurate timekeeping with minimal drift over extended periods.
• Implement reset mechanisms to handle potential interruptions.
Scope of Work:
The project will cover the design, simulation, and prototyping of the digital clock circuit. It includes the
selection and integration of appropriate digital logic ICs, as well as the creation of a user-friendly
interface for time display.
