Weather and Natural Disasters

It’s very nippy today. I need to wear a jacket when I go


out!

Nippy = Chilly = Too cold

Honey is feeling very hot. She is too sweaty. It’s a muggy


day.

Muggy = Warm = Hot = Humid

I can’t see the sun because of the overcast.

Overcast = Lots of clouds in the sky = Cloudy


In my country, it never gets too hot. It never gets too cold
either. The weather is too mild.

Weather is mild = Pleasant (not too hot, not too cold)

There are no ships in the sea because of the stormy


weather.

Storm = bad weather, strong winds, heavy rain, thunder


and lightning
In the desert, there are no plants because of the arid
climate.

Arid = dry, no rainfall

It is a bright, sunny, and clear day.

Clear = no clouds in the sky. The sky is clear.

The scorching heat is making me feel uncomfortable.

Scorching = toooooo hot


There was a blizzard in the city, and we later went out to
make snowmen when everything settled down.

Blizzard = heavy snowstorm

My house was submerged in the flood.

Flood = Lots of water everywhere

Submerged = wet

My house was blown away in a hurricane.

Hurricane = windstorm, and later, there is rain


I went to the park because it was a bright, sunny day.
Later, it started drizzling, but then it got better, and the
sun was out again. However, my clothes were still damp.

Drizzling = light rain

Damp = a little wet

The day was partly sunny.

Partly sunny = a little sunny

I couldn’t see a lot out the window because it was hazy


outside.
Hazy = Misty = Little foggy

My house blew away because of the tornado.

In Australia, the forests were destroyed by the wildfire.

Wildfire = big fire in forests, fields, or farms

I could feel the ground shake. It must be an earthquake.

Earthquake = when the ground shakes

I like the rain, but I don’t like it when it’s hailing.

Hail = rain in the form of small balls of ice.

After the earthquake, there was a big tsunami across the


coast and the beaches were closed for visitors.
There was a heatwave last week, and a lot of people
installed air conditioners.

Heatwave = hot weather for a long time.

I noticed a drought in my city, which was very unusual


because it rains every year.

Drought = A long period without any rain. There is no


rain for a long time, and so, there are no plants.
I was running home when there was a little shower on the
way, and I got wet.

Shower = light rain

The climate of the desert is hot and humid.

According to the weather forecast, it will rain on Friday,


and snow on Saturday.

Weather forecast = Prediction of weather

The thunder really scares me because it’s too loud!

Thunder is the sound caused by a flash of lightning.
