Exercise: Contact Management in Odoo 17


Objective:

To manage contacts efficiently in Odoo 17 by creating, organizing, and


utilizing contact information for better business operations.

Steps:

1. Set Up Odoo 17 Environment:

 Ensure you have access to an Odoo 17 instance. This could be a


local installation, a hosted solution, or an Odoo trial account.

2. Navigate to Contacts Module:

 Log in to your Odoo instance.


 From the main dashboard, click on the "Contacts" module.

3. Create a New Contact:

 Click on the "Create" button.

 Fill in the following details for the contact:

4. Add Internal Notes:

 Navigate to the "Internal Notes" tab.


 Add a note such as: "John is a key contact for our sales in the
Northeast region."

5. Categorize the Contact:

 Use tags to categorize the contact. For example, add tags like
"Sales", "Northeast", "Key Account".
 To add a tag, click on the tags field and either select an existing
tag or type a new one and press enter.

6. Save the Contact:

 Click the "Save" button to store the contact information.

7. Create Additional Contacts:


 Repeat the process to create more contacts. Here are some
sample data entries for additional contacts:

8. Organize Contacts into Companies:

 Navigate to the "Companies" view in the Contacts module.


 Ensure that "Doe Enterprises", "Smith & Co", and "Johnson
Industries" are listed as companies.
 For each company, ensure their respective contacts are linked
properly.

9. Use Filters and Groups:

 Apply filters to find contacts quickly. For example, filter by "Tags"


to see all contacts tagged as "Key Account".
 Group contacts by "Company" to see contacts organized by their
respective companies.
10. Export Contacts:

 Select multiple contacts by clicking the checkboxes next to their


names.
 Click on the "Action" button and choose "Export".
 Choose the fields you want to export (e.g., Name, Email, Phone,
Company) and click "Export to File".
11. Import Contacts:

 Prepare a CSV file with contact information similar to the sample


data provided.
 Click on the "Import" button in the Contacts module.
 Upload the CSV file and map the fields accordingly.
 Click "Import" to add the contacts to your Odoo database.
