Planning Principles
If ASON features are adopted, the master-slave subrack mode is recommended.
The OSN 9800 universal platform subrack and OSN 8800 series subrack/6800
subrack can work in master/slave mode in new deployment or capacity expansion
scenarios.
● The OSN 9800 universal platform subrack version is V100R006C00SPC600 or
later, and
● The OSN 8800 series subrack/6800 subrack version is V100R012C10SPC300 or
later.
● If a slave subrack of an earlier version exists before capacity expansion, the
slave subrack of the earlier version cannot be managed after the upgrade.

platform subrack version of the
● 6800 subrack XCH boards in the

as that of the

each slave

● In OptiX OSN
8800 T16,
because the AUX
board on a slave
subrack provides
the system
control and
communication
function, you do
not need to
configure the XCH
boards for an
optical slave
subrack, but can
configure service
boards in cross-
correct slots of
the slave subrack.

NOTE
● An electrical subrack houses the cross-connect boards, OTU boards, tributary boards, or
line boards. For example, if a platform subrack or universal platform subrack houses
only OTU boards (non-generation mode), the subrack is used as an electrical subrack.
An optical/electrical hybrid subrack is also used as an electrical subrack. OSN 8800 T32
(Enhanced/Universal) subracks and OSN 8800 T64 (Enhanced/Universal) subracks are
also used as electrical subracks.
● An optical subrack houses the OADM boards, multiplexer boards, demultiplexer boards,
optical amplifier boards, OSC boards, optical spectrum analyzing boards, regeneration
boards, OLP boards, or OTU boards (relay mode). For example, a subrack equipped with
only protection boards is an optical subrack. OSN 8800 T32 (Enhanced/Universal)
subracks and OSN 8800 T64 (Enhanced/Universal) subracks are still regarded as
electrical subracks even if they house only optical-layer boards.
● A regeneration subrack is a subrack where the boards inserted are all regeneration
boards or both regeneration boards and optical-layer boards.

used only in the master
subrack.
NOTE
The 1800 I Enhanced, 1800 II Enhanced and 1800 II Pro do not support the master-slave
subrack mode.
NOTE
Unless otherwise stated, the 1800 V(F-Series) and 1800 V(Z-Series) subracks are identified
by system control board models.
If any electrical-layer board is configured in the subrack, this subrack is an electrical
subrack.
Limitations on initiating electrical-layer ASON/TSDN are as follows:
● If the number of slave subracks has exceeded the upper limit before electrical-layer
ASON/TSDN is enabled, all slave subracks can work normally upon electrical-layer
ASON/TSDN initiation, but the SUBRACK_EXCEED alarm will be reported and no more
slave subracks can be added.
● If the logical subracks are manually added, the number of logical subracks cannot
exceed the specified threshold.
