2.1 This sets out your responsibilities, what we do and do not compensate you for and how to claim for any loss or damage you are insured for.
2.2 Definitions (key terms apply to insured peril)
• There are additional conditions specific to each insured section and are set out in those sections below.
What you have bought:
You have bought an Absa idirect non-life insurance policy and provided you have taken cover under all the sections of this policy, we will cover

be lost or damaged anywhere in the world, as well as your motor vehicles and boats, subject to the terms and conditions detailed under the
general conditions and those specific sections.
What is your duty as the Insured:

2 You must give us all relevant information about your past insurance history, relating to losses or damage that you or any member of your
household have claimed for through your Insurer or encountered in your/their personal capacity, whether you were insured at the time or not.
3 You must read and understand your policy.
4 You must comply with all the terms and conditions set out in your policy.
5 You must ensure that the sum insured is equal to the replacement value of your possessions and property. You must also ensure that your
vehicle and boat are insured for their current retail value.
6 You must conduct regular maintenance on your property, possessions and adhere to regular services intervals on your vehicles and boats,
including ensuring they remain roadworthy and seaworthy at all times.
7 You must inform us of any amendments/changes and/or renovations/updates/replacements to/of your property, possessions, vehicles and
boats. We must be notified within 14 (fourteen) days of changes on your property and prior to purchasing/taking possession of any
new/additional possessions, vehicles and boats.
8 You must ensure that the structure of your property and its permanent fixtures and fittings as well as additions/extensions comply with the
required minimum building standards applicable at the time of construction. It must be noted that should the above not be complied with, it
could affect the outcome of your claim.
When and how we will compensate you

Section 2
General Terms and Conditions applicable to the policy
1 Abandonment
During the policy period the insured property may not be abandoned by the insured/owner/tenant, as an abandoned property is not covered.
2 Automatic Inflation Margin
The sum insured will be increased on the renewal date of the policy under the Homeowners and Householders sections of your policy, in line
with the inflation indices for the past period and future estimated period of insurance. The Insured remains responsible for ensuring that the
sum insured represents the full replacement value of the insured property at all times.
3 Under Insured
Under insurance happens when the property is insured for less than the replacement value which might lead to the application of average at
the time of a claim.
4 Average
If the property sum insured represented in the schedule, is less than the actual replacement value of your property at the time of loss or damage,
you will be responsible to pay a ratable proportion of the claim. This is applicable whether the insured has suffered a total or partial loss.
Example:
Your insured property has a sum insured of R300 000. The replacement value of the building is R400 000. If your house is damaged by a
storm and the cost of the claim is R70 000, the claims settlement value will be calculated as follows:
Sum Insured multiplied by Claims value divided by Replacement value equals Settlement value.
R300 000 x R70 000 = R21 000 000 000.
R21 000 000 000/R400 000 = R52 500 less the applicable excess.
5 Cooling off period
All policies issued for a period exceeding 31 (thirty one) days are subject to a cooling off period. The insured has fourteen 14 (fourteen) days
from receipt of a new policy contract or any variation/amendment to their existing policy contract, to cancel the policy entered into or the
variation made to an existing policy. Upon cancellation, if no claims or benefits have been paid by the insurer, they will refund all premiums
collected for the new policy or the additional premium charged for the variations made to the policy.
6 Criminal activities, money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions and prohibited business activities
Absa Insurance Company Limited (“AIC”), as part of Absa Bank Limited, must comply with national and international laws, regulations,
policies, rules and requirements to prevent criminal activities, money laundering and terrorist financing, sanctions and prohibited business
activity laws and rules violations. AIC must therefore check all information from and about you and related parties and monitor, verify,
process and screen your and related party information, instructions and transactions on an ongoing basis. AIC holds the right to cancel your
policy as noted in the applicable regulations. AIC is not responsible for any losses or damages that you may suffer because of these checks or
by Absa ending the relationship. This includes any loss of profits or savings that you would otherwise have expected to make.
7 Cancellation
We can cancel this policy by giving you 31 (thirty one) days’ notice of our intention to do so. You are not entitled to any refund of premiums if
your policy is cancelled. You can cancel this policy by giving us immediate notice.
8 Change to the Risk/Endorsements
Any changes to the risk need to be notified to the insurer within 14 (fourteen) days of those changes taking place. Should the insurer not be
notified of the changes within this period and a claim occurs prior to the insurer being notified, the relevant changes and impact of those
changes will be taken into consideration prior to settling the claim, this might also result in the claim not being entertained in its entirety and
the policy being cancelled with effect from the date of those changes.
We may endorse your policy with changes by giving you 31 (thirty one) days’ notice of our intention to do so. You may request that we endorse
your policy with changes, giving us immediate notice to do so. All endorsements will be noted on your policy schedule and sent to you.
9 Excesses
The insured will be responsible for the excess portion shown under the excess structure of the policy for each and every occurrence and/or
claim. This excess is payable separately per section or sub-section of the policy. The excess portion of a claim is the first amount payable
prior to any contribution from the insurer. The insurer will only contribute to the settlement of the claim if it is more than the minimum
excess amount.
10 Monthly premiums
We will collect your first premium and subsequent monthly premiums by debit order on the collection due date, payment cannot be accepted
by any other method. If your premium collection date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday and your banking institution does not allow
the successful transaction, we will collect the premium on the next work day thereafter. You must make sure that there are sufficient funds
in your bank account to pay your premium on the agreed date. If any debit order is not paid, you will be responsible for the related bank
charges. If your first premium or any subsequent monthly premium collection is unsuccessful, you will have a grace period of 31 (thirty one)
days to pay it. Should you instruct to your financial institution to cancel, reverse or stop your debit order at any time, it will be deemed that
you have opted to cancel your cover and the grace period will no longer be applicable and the policy will automatically cancel from the date
that the premium was due.
If your debit order is unsuccessful for any other reason than you cancelling it, we will submit a double debit for the collection of your
outstanding premium and your premium due on your next monthly collection date. If we are unable to collect the outstanding premium and
your next monthly premium due, your policy will be cancelled from the first date the outstanding premium was initially due. You are not
entitled to any refund of premiums if your policy is cancelled. If you claim during the grace period, we will not consider your claim unless you
have paid the outstanding premium before the expiry of the grace period.
11 Waiver of Rights
We will not request or encourage you in any manner to waive any of your rights or benefits presented by or in terms of any provision of the
Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002 (Act No 37 of 2002), General Code of Conduct for Authorised Financial Service
Providers and Representatives. Should you give up any such rights, we will not recognise, accept or act on them. Any such waiver will be null
