DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, VINDHYANAGAR

SUMMER VACATION (2024 –25 )

HOLIDAY HOMEWORK

CLASS – X (MATHEMATICS)

1. Revise lessons 1, 2 and 3.

2. Activity :

i) To draw the graph of a quadratic polynomial.

ii) To verify the conditions of consistency / inconsistency for a pair of linear equations in two variables
by graphical method.

3. Assignment :

a) A dining hall has a length of 8.25 m, breadth of 6.75 m and height of 4.5 m. What is the length of the
longest unmarked ruler that can exactly measure the three dimensions of the hall? Show your steps and
give valid reasons.

𝑥 2 − 3√2 𝑥 + 4
b) At how many points does the graph of the expression ; x  √2 , intersects the x - axis ?
𝑥 − √2
Show your work.

c) p and q are zeroes of the polynomial 2x2 + 5x – 4 . Without finding the actual values of p and q , evaluate
( 1 – p ) ( 1 – q ) . Show your steps .

d) A polynomial is given by q(x) = x3 - 2x2 – 9 x + k, where k is a constant. The sum of two zeroes of q(x)
is zero. Using the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients of a polynomial, find the

i) Zeroes of q(x)

ii) Value of k

Show your steps.

e) If α and β are the zeroes of the polynomial f(x) = 2x2+ 5x + k, satisfying the relation α2 + β2 + α β = ,
4
then find the value of k for this to be possible.

f) Draw the graphs of the following equations: 2 x - y - 2 = 0, 4 x + 3 y - 24 = 0, y + 4 = 0. Obtain the vertices

of triangle so obtained. Also determine its area.

g) Given below is a non – linear equation

3(𝑥 + 𝑦) + 7(𝑥 − 𝑦)
= 12
𝑥 2 − 𝑦2
Garima has reduced it to a linear equation in two variables. Shown below are her steps.

3(𝑥 + 𝑦) + 7(𝑥 − 𝑦)
Step 1 : (𝑥 + 𝑦)(𝑥 − 𝑦)
= 12

3 7
Step 2 : + 𝑥−𝑦 = 12
𝑥+𝑦

1 1
Step 3 : Takes 𝑥+𝑦 = a and =b
𝑥−𝑦

Step 4 : 3a + 7b = 12

However she has made mistake in one step. Identify the erroneous step and complete the solution.

h) The total cost of an ice cream is divided into fixed cost ( x ) and variable cost ( y ). Fixed cost is the cost
that the ice cream parlour has to incur even at zero level of production and variable cost is the cost that
will be directly proportional to each unit of ice cream sold. The parlour launched a new flavor of ice cream
and wanted to find the fixed cost and variable cost associated with it .They found that their total cost for
that flavor was Rs. 27500 after selling 150 units and Rs. 32500 after selling 250 units.

i) Frame the equations that represent the total cost incurred by ice cream parlour for the new flavor

in terms of fixed and variable cost.

ii) Find the fixed cost incurred by the parlour for the new flavor. Show your work.

iii) Find the variable cost per unit incurred by the parlour for the new flavor. Show your work.
