ExeNAME: _______________________________________
OBJECTIVES: The student should be able to:
 Familiar with the symbol and actual electrical components
 Test and identify functionality of basic electrical components

INTRODUCTION
Resistors - is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit
element.
1. Draw the symbol of resistor:

2. Complete the table below for 5 resistors.

Resistance Reading
Color Code Coded Value
(DMM)

INTRODUCTION
Capacitor - is a device that stores electrical energy in an electric field.
PROCEDURE
Number Coded Value Capacitance
1. Draw the symbol of non-electrolytic capacitor Code (capacitance) Reading (LCR)

2. Write the number code and obtain the capacitance

based on the number code
3. Using LCR, measure the capacitance
4. Complete the table.

INTRODUCTION
TESTING ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITOR

Testing capacitor by voltage test

Charge the capacitor using

a known voltage supply.

Measure the voltage across

its terminals.

PROCEDURE
1. Draw the symbol of an electrolytic capacitor Value resistance check voltage test

2. Identify the capacitance and voltage rating of 5

electrolytic capacitors
3. Using the ohms function, test the capacitor and record the result
4. Using a 9 V battery, supply voltage across its terminal and record the voltage reading.
5. Using LCR, measure the capacitance
6. Complete the table.
TESTING FUSE WITH CONTINUITY
PROCEDURE
1. Draw the symbol of the fuse

2. Write the voltage and current rating of the

fuse
3. Check the fuse using continuity
4. Record the test results
