ABSTRACT

• The Smart Street Light System integrates various sensors (such as

motion, light, and environmental sensors), microcontrollers, and
communication modules (e.g., Wi-Fi, Zigbee) to create an
intelligent lighting network. The system operates by dynamically
adjusting the brightness of street lights based on real-time data,
such as ambient light levels and the presence of pedestrians or
vehicles. For instance, the lights can dim during low traffic
periods or brighten when movement is detected.
Existing System: Traditional Street Lighting

• Street lights are manually controlled, typically turned on and off at

fixed times.
• This system often leads to energy wastage as lights remain on even
when not needed (e.g., during daylight or low-traffic periods).
• Lights consume a fixed amount of power regardless of the actual need,
leading to higher energy consumption and costs.
• Fault detection is usually reactive, relying on manual inspections or
reports from the public, leading to delayed repairs.
• Traditional systems lack real-time monitoring, making it difficult to
track energy consumption or detect malfunctions.
Proposed System: Smart Street Lighting
Based on IoT
• Energy Savings: Significant reduction in energy consumption and operational costs.
• Improved Safety: Better lighting quality and adaptive brightness enhance public
safety.
• Environmental Impact: Reduced carbon footprint due to lower energy usage and
integration with renewable energy sources.
• Cost-Effective Maintenance: Predictive maintenance reduces downtime and extends
the lifespan of lighting infrastructure.
• The transition from traditional to smart street lighting systems based on IoT
represents a significant step towards more efficient, sustainable, and safe urban
environments.
• Data collected from smart street lights can be analyzed to optimize lighting
schedules, reduce energy consumption, and improve public safety.
