Purpose of this Manual.
This manual is designed to allow the user to get the best out of their GeoVista GV Logger
and to operate efficiently and safely.
Safety
Careless Operation Of This Piece Of Equipment Can Result In Personal Injury And
Equipment Damage.
Ensure That You Are Trained In The Operation.
If In Doubt, Stop Activities.
If In Doubt, Get Assistance From Competent Personnel.
Observe Local Operating Procedures That Are In Place.
Particular safety points will be highlighted throughout this manual.

Please note the section regarding power supply. If these recommendations are not
followed then the manufacturers warranty may be void.
GV Logger main features
The GV Logger allows the operator to perform downhole geophysical logs in conjunction
with a Geovista winch and sonde stack, as part of a complete Geovista Logging System.
The GV Logger comprises these main parts:
Logger Box with Display and Power Switch
Power Lead
Winch Lead and Connector
USB Lead and Connector
Power supply: 110-240 VAC, 50Hz, 2A

Driver Installation
Important! - Make sure that your computer Regional Settings recognise the English
number notation so that for example 1,000.00 mean “One Thousand Point Zero Zero”. To
achieve this, go to Settings, select Control Panel then select Regional Settings, then set
country to United Kingdom, Decimal Symbol to “.” and Digit Grouping Symbol to “,”.
Logger Software Versions 6.66 or older (For use on Windows 7 and earlier)
Locate file the directory GV_6** in the CD/USB drive provided to you, open it and click on
the SETUP application. Follow normal windows installation instructions on the screen.
When done,
1. Make sure that the programme has created a “gvsystem” folder in the root
directory. This folder should contain *.ini files and *.cal files that are used by the
logging programme. Make sure these files are there and if not, copy them manually
from the gvsystem directory on the CD using Explorer.
2. Connect the logger USB lead to the PC and power up the logger. Windows will
detect the device and may request the USB driver. Follow the dialog and direct the
installation software to the GV_DRIVERS_USB_3 directory on the CD.
3. Point number 2 maybe repeated a second time, this is normal.
4. Open the “GeoVistaLogger” sub-directory located in the “Program Files” directory.
Locate the application “GVLog*v**.exe” then click and drag it onto the desktop to
create a launching short-cut icon.
5. Double-click on the icon to start up the application.
Logger Software Versions 7 and later (For use on Windows 7 and later)
1. Copy to the desktop and double click on the executable software file provided to
you. This will install the acquisition software.
2. For Windows 10: Install the driver as follows:
Go to start window, click on settings
Click ‘update & security’
Click ‘recovery’
Click ‘advanced startup
Click ‘restart now’ – your PC will now re-boot
Click troubleshoot
Click advanced options
Click Start-up Settings
Click restart – your PC will now re-boot

A menu will appear. Item 7 will be ‘Disable driver signature enforcement’ –
Type 7 on the keyboard. – The PC will restart and driver signature
enforcement will be disabled.
Install the GeoVista drivers as below:
3. Connect the logger USB lead to the PC and power up the logger. Windows will
detect the device and may request the USB driver. Follow the dialog and direct the
installation software to the GV_DRIVERS_USB_3 directory
Operation
For information on the use of the Logger Platform, consult the Geovista Platform Logger
manual.
Winch Tension Calibration
For information on the use of the Logger Platform to calibrate the winch tension , consult
the Geovista Platform Logger manual.
The calibration modifies the GV_Sys.ini file. This information can then be loaded on to the
GV Logger, so that a matching pair of Logger and Winch will retain the calibration.
Maintenance
The only maintenance required is to keep the unit clean and dry. Take care in very humid
conditions. Position the unit where water cannot enter. Keep the leads in good condition. If
the leads become damaged, do not use the unit.
Environmental Limits
Operating temperature: 5 to 40 ºC (41 to 104 ºF).
Operating humidity: 20 to 80 percent RH.
Storage temperature: –20 to 60 ºC (–4 to 140 ºF).
Storage humidity: 8 to 90 percent RH.
