OBJECTIVE: To formulate frequency table and to draw cluster and stacked bar diagram.

PROBLEM:

Formulate frequency table and draw a cluster and a stacked /sub-divided bar diagram for the
following data on the blood group of 90 students in a class.

Male : AB , O , B , A , A , A , A , B , B , O , O , B , A , O , O , AB , B , AB , A , O , A , A ,
O , A , O , A , A , O , A , B , AB , O , AB , O , O , O , B , O , A , O , A , B , A , A , O

Female : O , B , O , A , O , A , A , B , B , O , O , B , A , O , O , AB , B , AB , A , O , A , A ,
B , AB , O , A , A , O , O , A , A , O , AB , O , O , O , B , O , A , O , A , B , O , B , O

THEORY:

Clustered bar graph: It is a type of bar graph that allows for the display of two categorical
variables like the typical bar graph it compares data from a sample that pertains to specific
categories or attributes of a categorical variables to another property, usually a frequency,
about those given attributes. The clustered effects allow two categorical variables of a
sample to be graphed at one, with each common attribute being graphed together.

Stacked/sub-divided bar diagram: A stacked bar graph is a chart that uses bars to show
comparisons between categories of data, but with ability to break down and compare parts
of a whole. Each bar in the chart represents a whole & segments in the bar represent
different parts or categories of that whole.

STEPS:

1) Define variable name and label for the variable

a) Go to variable view → Name → Sl. No → Blood group → Gender(0=male ,
1=Female)

2) Frequency table and cluster bar chart

a) Analyze→ Descriptive statistics → crosstabs → Choose Blood group as row(s)
and Gender as Column(s) → Tick in the display clustered bar charts → ok

3) Stacked bar Diagram

a) Graphs → Legacy Dialogs → Bar charts → Choose stacked → Define → Choose
Blood group as Category Axis and Gender as Stacks → ok

CONCLUSION:

1. From Figure 6.1, we draw the following conclusion:

• Maximum number of students (both males and females) have blood group O,
while least number of students have blood group AB.

2. The stacked bar diagram in Figure 6.2 conveys that the proportion of males and
females belonging to each blood group is more or less equal. Also, we draw a
conclusion similar to that from Figure 10.1 that the number of students belonging to
blood group O is the highest, followed by blood group A, B and AB.
