PREAMBLE:
Mathematics is a basic and important discipline that contributes to the developments and
understandings of various field like Economics ,Commerce and Accountancy. The extent of
application of Mathematics by scientists, engineers, business analysts etc. to real world problems
has increased by leaps. This course will help students to understand basic fundamental concepts
of Maths. The course will definitely improve basic mathematical skills and help the students to
acquire better understanding of the math-based subjects.
Program Outcome:
Reflecting the broad nature of the subject and developing mathematical tools for
continuing in various fields.
The Board of Studies in Mathematics in its meeting held on 24th June 2023 has discussed,
finalized and unanimously accepted the revised syllabus (as per CBCS pattern) prepared by
committee. The titles of the papers for F.Y.B.A/B.Sc. .Mathematics Semester I and Semester

Title: - FUNDAMENTALS OF FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS
Course Objectives:
This course is designed to acquire.
1. the concept of Shares & Mutual Funds.
2. the different Concept of Central Tendency & Measures of Dispersions.
3. the different concepts in probability and its laws.
4. the concept of Interest & Annuity and its problem solving
Course Outcome:
CO1: Apply the knowledge of Mathematics in solving business problems.
CO2: Demonstrate mathematical skills required in mathematically intensive areas in Commerce
such as Finance and Economics.
CO3: Understand the important role Mathematics plays in all facets of the business world.
CO4: Understand the use of equations, formulae, and mathematical expressions and
relationships in a variety of contexts.
CO5: Demonstrate critical thinking, modelling, and problem-solving skills in a variety of
contexts
CO6: Understand the have the basic knowledge on data collection and various statistical
elementary tools.

Course Content:
Unit Description Periods
I Shares and Mutual Funds: 7
(a)Shares: Concept of share, face value, market value, dividend, equity
shares, preference shares, bonus shares. Simple examples.
(b)Mutual Funds:
Simple problems on calculation of Net income after considering entry
load, dividend, change in Net Asset Value (N.A.V.) and exit load.
Averaging of price under the Systematic Investment Plan (S.I.P.)
