SHEET # 2
Feedback Amplifiers
Problem (1)
A designer is required to achieve a closed loop gain of 25 ± 1 % V/V using a basic amplifier whose gain
variations are ± 10 %. What are the nominal values of the amplifier gain (A) and the feedback factor (β)?

Problem (2)
An amplifier with a nominal gain A = 1000 V/V exhibits a gain change of 10% as the temperature changes
from 25 o C to 75 o C. It is required to constrain the change to 0.1 % by applying negative
feedback. Calculate the largest closed loop gain possible (A f).

Problem (3)
A negative-feedback amplifier has a closed-loop gain Af = 100 and an open-loop gain A = 104. What is the
feedback factor β ? If a manufacturing error results in a reduction of A to 103, what closed-loop gain results?
What is the percentage change in Af corresponding to this factor of 10 reduction in A?
Problem (4)
A designer is considering two possible designs of a feedback amplifier. The ultimate goal is 10 V/V. One
design employs an amplifier for which 1000 V/V and the other uses 500 V/V. Find B and the desensitivity
factor in both cases. If the amplifier A = 1000 units have a gain uncertainty of 10 %, what is the gain
uncertainty for the closed-loop amplifiers utilizing this amplifier type? If the same result is to be achieved with
amplifier A = 500, what is the maximum allowable uncertainty in its gain?

Problem (5)
Analyze the Series-Shunt feedback amplifier circuit shown
in Figure (1).
1. Draw the input and output circuits without feedback.
2. Draw the total circuit without feedback (A-circuit) and
derive an expression for the open-loop gain (A).
3. Determine the feedback gain Af.
