JOHARI WINDOW

MY SCORE:

My Johari window score is 41.5 on the top axis (Y-axis) and 33.5 on
the horizontal axis (X-axis). The area of my open window is more
than the area of the other three windows.
SELF ANALYSIS
OPEN WINDOW (41.5 ON Y-AXIS)
From the results that I have got, I can say that I am aware of my
behaviour, values, and way I live my life. I know that I am fairly open
with my thoughts and experiences. I always share my ideas and
communicate well with others.
BLIND AREA (33.5 ON X-AXIS)
I can say that some things are known to others about me but I am
not aware of those things. There are things I don’t fully recognize in
myself, but others do. I need to be more open to feedback from my
friends and professors as it will help me to discover these blind spots
in my personality. Understanding these things will help me to
improve myself and increase my open area which is the ultimate goal
of this exercise.
HIDDEN AREA
From the result, I understand that there are some things that I want
to keep private. There are some aspects of my life that I want to
keep just with myself. While I am comfortable with sharing many
things and experiences with others, there are things that I still hold
back. I understand that being more open about myself at least with
my close group could help to grow in my future
UNKNOWN AREA
From the result, I understand that there are parts or traits neither I
nor others understand fully or which are yet to be discovered. I see
this as an opportunity to explore new things by stepping into new
roles and taking challenges which will me discover many things about
myself.

PLAN OF ACTION
The goal is to increase the open area, to do so my plan of action will
be to seek feedback from my peers, friends, professors, and
mentors. This will help me understand how others perceive my
strengths and areas of improvement. To build trust and clarity, I’ll be
more transparent about my goals, challenges, and strengths during
group projects and group discussions. I’ll engage more in class
activities to enhance my communication skills. Through these
actions, I aim to expand my open window, becoming more self-
aware and effective in interaction.

RANKING SHEET

Order of rescue:
1.SUNIL , MD Research
2.TINA , Pre Med School
3.AMARNATH , Business Owner
4.JOHN, Social Worker
5.HINA , Homemaker
6.MARK , Unemployed

REFLECTION:
1. SUNIL: I choose to rescue Sunil in the first position because of his
expertise in medical research. Immune deficiency diseases like AIDS are
growing concern for all and Sunil is close to find a cure for it. His work is
invaluable and his cure will save millions of life in the long run that’s why
I choose to rescue him on first position.
2. TINA: Tina was my second choice due to her potential to contribute to
society in the future and she is young. Her rescue leads to countless lives
saved in the future.
3. AMARNATH: I choose to rescue Amarnath at third position because of
the impact of his survival on society. The fate of 250 families was
dependent on him also he played a very crucial role in finalizing the deal.
So my perception is that saving him can benefit many people.

4. JOHN: I priotrize him on the fourth forth position because his work in
social services and anti-racism has the potential to make significant
impact on society and he is father of 5 children. I saw value in his work
and his role in his family that’s why I choose him in fourth position.

5. HINA: I choose Hina to rescue in fifth position because her impact on the
community is less then everyone above her. Her involvement with mark
which has complicated her situation, makes me perceive her at lesser
priority than others.

6. MARK: I choose to rescue him at last because of his personal struggle,

including his unemployment, alcohol addiction and lack of societal role
which led me to choose him in the last.

CONCLUSION:
My decision is based on the contribution the person would make in a society in
the long run. I choose those people , and give them more precedence, whose
survival can result in immense positive impact in the society.

Scores:

Competing Collaborating Compromising Avoiding Accommodating

8 5 3 7 7
After completing the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, I observed
that my scores reflect a less strong approach to handling conflicts, with a score
of (10 points) in Compromising, that means I do not compromise with
someone in anything and Higher use of Avoiding and Accommodating (both at
7 points) that means I tend to avoid conflicting situations or nuances. My
scores for Competing is 8 points , this I will feel personally because at times I
feel if someone can do something difficult and why I can not, so I spend my
time to better at that field and for Collaborating 5 points it is moderate score
that implies I am not very good at collaborating with others and this can be a
bummer so now I am trying to improve myself as this will me in teamwork.

REFLECTION:
1. COMPROMISING [3]
This result suggests that in conflict situation, I often want to do things in
my way not trying to care about others opinion and outlook, even if the
solutions are not ideal for either sides I try to settle things in my way
that leads to big conflict but this thing is acceptable to me as I don’t
want to change my personality due to others, by doing so I settle down
conflicts their and after and try to eliminate any upcoming conficts
2. AVOIDING [7]
My score of avoiding does not indicates that I tend to avoid the
situations rather I tend to not involve in such conflicting situations
because sometimes I lose my calm. I am not aware whether avoiding
conflict is truly beneficial for me or it is just leading to unresolved
problem, if I can get advice then its gonna give me guidance on whether
to change my attitude or not.
3. ACCOMMODATING [7]
This result suggests that I am willing to put other’s needs before my own
needs only in cases where my needs have already been satisfied or those
needs have minimal effect in my life, or its not in my priority list. It can
help me in building strong relationships with my peers.
4. COMPETING [8]
My high score in competing shows that I am pushing myself way beyond.
I have been consistent in my work everyday trying to achieve the goals
of my life, and because of that I never underestimate myself in any
difficult situation or task. This makes me competing, it also means that I
never miss any opportunities to advocate my own needs.
5. COLLABORATING [5]
This result suggests that I recognise value of working together and
always listen to others opinion and perception in any given group task
because I consider other ideas if they are better than mine. This help me
in improving myself in a group where I lack behind in certain areas, it act
as a catalyst in improvement area of mine, but I tend to emphasize more
on my ideas rather than emphasizing on someone’s ideas. I try to be a
team leader that listens to everybody, collaborate with others to
complete the task that’s what is the ultimate goal.

CONCLUSION
My conflict management style is assertive and flexible. I have a high need to
compete and lead, but simultaneously, I am also able to accommodate others
whenever it is more beneficial for me to get my way. A reflection on whether
to push my ideas and when to be more open with others will help me in finding
more harmonious and effective conflict resolution.
DESERT SURVIVAL:
It was an individual as well as a group activity that teaches teamwork and
problem solving. In this activity, we are placed in a hypothetical situation in
which our plane crashes in the middle of the desert. We had given a list of
items salvaged from the crash and we were asked to rank these items
individually according to your priority as well as while discussing in the group,
these items should be in order of importance for our survival in the desert.
The purpose of this activity is to analyze the teamwork and communication
among the group, how could I convince the other team members about my
choices, and how much I am open to different views.

MY REFLECTION:
This helps me understand the differences between the way in which I, and
those of my group, make decisions; thus I derive the crucial aspects in which
our thought processes align and where we differ with others.
Therefore, the error score is 9 for me, but concurrently, which is comparatively
better, it depicts how ideas from different members can come together and
lead to a better decision. The error score is 9 for myself, but at the same
time, which is comparatively better, showing that ideas from different
members can lead to a better decision.
It is always good to listen to people opinions, as it will help in the future in
making more public decisions. I ranked the air map at 15 , while the expert
rated it no. 12; this made me realize that different people hold different
opinions about resources based on experience.
Group discussions were very important in reaching the final ranking. It
facilitates the sharing of our reasoning behind every item ranking. This taught
me that in every organization, communication is important to ensure that all
are on the same page.
There are a few areas where my judgement might have gone off when
comparing my ranking to the expert ranking. I had placed magnetic compass at
No 3, Whereas the expert has ranked it on No 11- so I could understand that I
shall learn from my mistakes and be receptive to feedback.
This exercise also taught me the importance of adapting. As we discussed our
ranking in the group, I had to change my opinion according to the feedback of
the group.
Overall, this was a very practical lesson of how the collaboration within the
group can come up with a better result than individual effort.

MY REFLECTION:
It was revealed that my score denotes that I am a person who accepts a
balanced approach to leadership but needs to work with people more than
tasks. My people score is 5.8 and my task score is 7.4, so this suggests that I
value building strong relationships and achieving goals. It also suggests me to
slightly lean towards the well-being of my team.

PEOPLE ORIENTATION:
The score being 5.8 in the “people” category shows that I am less conscious of
encouraging creativity, building a great team, and respect for other’s
boundaries. But then I realized that I could enhance the scores with regard to
some questions which are lower, thereby conveying the perception of being
underconfident.
ORIENTATION TO TASK:
I scored 7.4 under “task”, which obviously purports that I can make goals and
handle tasks well. But still, one can possibly do a lot better with multitasking
and time management.
An input from this activity is that it has helped me understand that on side I am
more people-oriented, and on the other side. I am more task-oriented
continuous growth is possible in the development of both the areas in order to
be a good leader in the future.
