Throughout my schooling career, there was not much diversity in the work that was

assigned to me and my classmates. It felt as if we were writing the same pieces over and over,

same format different topic. Usually, we would write argumentative essays, where we would

write to argue more towards one side, while also informing of why some people may agree with

the other side. If we were not assigned to write an argumentative essay then it was most likely a

short story that we were assigned to. One memorable research argumentative essay I wrote was

about whether there should be more requirements for a teenager to obtain their license. This was

memorable because after we wrote these essays, we were able to debate another student, and

while this happened the class got very heated. I find it intriguing to research a random topic and

write about it because throughout the process I can reflect and feel as if truly understand what I

am learning. One thing I dislike about researching a topic is the vast number of biased sources I

read that are just trying to manipulate you into believing what they want instead of providing

information so you can make up your own mind. Although I am very unfamiliar with the UT

libraries, I am excited to use them for research.

Writing in school never excited me, it always felt as if I was doing a chore. I recently

have taken up poetry. I started with reading it, which soon lead to me thinking about things in a

more meaningful and symbolic way. Reading poetry enticed me to start writing it myself, so one

day I went to Walmart to find a notepad to write. As time went on, I challenged myself to write at

least one poem a day, and this proceeded from a couple months until the notepad was filled, and I

was left with a book of poems that portrayed many things that were happening and happened in
my life. Frankly I never plan on writing professionally in the future, mostly just plan to write for

my own mental health.

When I perceive my own writing capabilities, I mostly see negative signs, rather than

positive things like my strengths. I have a creative mind and feel I understand people which

could help me connect to a reader. Empathy is one of my bigger strengths when I write. Knowing

that someone may read your writing is a scary feeling. It is a heavy emotion being scared that

someone is going to judge your work or even what you are thinking. When an overthinking mind

and the fear of being judged is put together, a writing block is bound to happen. Indecisiveness is

by far one of my biggest weaknesses when being in a wring atmosphere. I hope to gain the skill

to execute my writing abilities without being able to question the authority of my mind due to the

fear of being judged.

Food is a topic relative to everyone. Just about everyone has a relationship with food

whether it be good or bad. Food impacts us in just about every aspect of our lives. I understand

how detrimental a good diet can be to our bodies, and how certain foods can affect us differently.

Although I would love to research the small affects food has on our bodies and our mental

hygiene. As well as why it affects us the way it does.
