EN 1107 - Engineering Drawing
Assignment No 02 (week 4 & 5 )
Part 1 - In-class Assignment
1. A circle of diameter 50 mm rolls on a straight line without slipping. Trace the locus of a point on the
circumference of the circler rolling for one complete revolution. Name the curve, draw the tangent
and normal at any point on the curve.
2. Draw epicycloid of a circle of 40 mm diameter, which rolls outside on another circle of 150 mm
diameter for one revolution clockwise. Draw a tangent and normal to it at a point 95 mm from the
center of the directing circle
3. Draw hypocycloid of a circle of 40 mm diameter, which rolls inside of another circle of 160 mm
diameter for one revolution counter clockwise. Draw a tangent and normal to it at a point 65 mm
from the center of the directing circle
4. Draw an involute of a circle of 50mm diameter. Also, draw a tangent and normal at any point on the
curve.
5. Construct an Archimedean spiral for one convolution with greatest and least radius of 90mm and
15mm.

Part 2 – Take home assignment

1. A circle of diameter 60 mm rolls on a straight line without slipping. Trace the locus of a point P
which is 20mm from the center of the circle (inside the circle) for one complete revolution.
2. A circle of 50 mm diameter is rolling on a straight line without slipping. Trace locus of a point P
which is outside the circle, 30mm from the center of the circle.
3. An inelastic string 155 mm long has one stone end attached to the circumference of a circular disc of
40 mm diameter. Draw the curve traced out by the end of the string, when it is completely wound
around the disc keeping it always tight (wound method).
4. Draw the path traced by a point at the end of a string, when it is wound around a square of size 40
mm.
5. Draw an involute around a hexagon of side 25 mm.
6. A point is moving around the surface of the cylinder of 25mm diameter at uniform speed and at the
same time it advances in the direction of axis by 35mm also with uniform speed. Draw the path of
the moving point.
7. Draw the locus of the point P which will move on the surface of a cone from lowest position to
highest position for one revolution around the axis. The cone has a base diameter 66mm and height
53mm.
