Assignment Overview

The assignment aims at enhancing students understanding of types of business organisation, its legal structure, and
the extent to which the structure impacts the operation of the organisation. It also aims enhancing learners
understanding of the impact of globalisation as well as state interventions on the operations of organisations.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your
achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO 1 Demonstrate an understanding of relevant information required to analyse different organisation’s


business environments

LO 3
Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of global changes in the business
environment on business organisations and activities including state interventions.

Assignment Task and Requirements

WHAT ARE YOU ASKED TO DO?

 Choose a firm within the accounting and finance sector in the UK and provide background information of the
nature of ownership, products, competitors, and the market within which it operates.
 Discuss three advantages and three disadvantages of the type of business the chosen firm operates in.
 Analyse three global changes that have impacted the firm you have chosen.
 Identify and discuss two positive and negative effect of the changes in government (state) interventions and
regulation on the activities and ability of the chosen organisation to compete both internally and globally.
 Discuss at least two appropriate strategies that the chosen organisation could consider in improving its
operations and competitiveness.

Assignment Guide and Format

Your presentation must at least, cover the following:

1. Write an introduction that defines the subject matter and clearly sets the tone for the presentation
(1-2 slides).
2. Discuss the nature of ownership, products, competitors, and the market within which the chosen
firm operates (1-2 slides).
3. Discuss three advantages and three disadvantages of the type of business the chosen firm operates
in (2-4 slides).
4. Analyse three global changes that have impacted the firm you have chosen. Site appropriate
examples from the chosen firm to back your presentation (2-4 slides).
5. Identify and discuss two positive and negative effect of the changes in government (state)
interventions and regulation on the activities and ability of the chosen organisation to compete
both internally and globally (2-4 slides).
6. Discuss at least two appropriate strategies that the chosen organisation could consider in
improving its operations and competitiveness (2-4 slides).
7. Conclusion: A summary of all the key points in the slides above without introducing any new ideas.
(1-2 slides).
8. References & Structure: Well-structured and argued report that shows evidence of wide reading of
academic sources (beyond the module paper and core texts) that are integrated into your slides
and correctly referenced.

9. You may use images and charts to help demonstrate the analysis – you must ensure the images
and charts are from a reliable source and not created by yourself and must also be clear to read.

This assignment should be submitted electronically via Moodle (module tutors will discuss this process with you
during class time) on or before 1st March 2024 at 2:00PM.

also contain at least 20 words of text, consist of fewer than 400 pages and be less than 40MB in size.

 You can submit your work as many times as you like before the submission date. If you do submit your work
