INTRODUCTION

Happiness is an important part of life, often described as a feeling of well-

being, contentment, and fulfillment. It is influenced by personal choices, relationships,
environment, and even technology. Happiness for us is finding contentment in what
we have and experiencing peace in all aspects of life. It is about nurturing positive
relationships with family, friends, and even those we may not get along with, while
maintaining a strong connection with God. Happiness also involves pursuing what
we love, whether it’s achieving personal goals, expressing ourselves freely without
concern for others’ opinions, or simply finding joy in the little things life has to offer.
Bangun et al. (2021) explain that happiness includes positive emotions, life
satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. Similarly, Otake et al. (2006) highlight the role
of strong relationships and meaningful activities in achieving long-term happiness.

Bentham defined happiness as 'the sum of pleasures and pains'. Similarly

happiness is currently conceived as 'the overall appreciation of ones life as-a-whole'.
In this conceptualization, happiness is an outcome of life and distinct from
preconditions for a good life, such as a livable environment and good life-abilities.
This conception differs from current notions of 'quality of life’, which combine
anything good (Veenhoven 2000).

According to Celestine (2017), happiness is understood as the positive

emotions we have in regards to the pleasurable activities we take part in through our
daily lives. Pleasure, comfort, gratitude, hope, and inspiration are examples of
positive emotions that increase our happiness and move us to flourish.

In scientific literature, happiness is referred to as hedonia the presence of

positive emotions and the absence of negative emotions. In a more broad
understanding, human wellbeing is made up of
both hedonic and Eudaimonic principles, the literature on which is vast and
describes our personal meaning and purpose in life (Ryan & Deci, 2001).

Further, Kendra (2024) stated that happiness is something that people seek to
find, yet what defines happiness can vary from one person to the next. Typically,
happiness is an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction,
contentment, and fulfillment. While happiness has many different definitions, it is
often described as involving positive emotions and life satisfaction.

Furthermore, Olsen (2021) highlights that happiness is a goal that’s

achievable for anyone. Even if your environment is bad, you’re suffering from an
illness, or you lack opportunities, you can still find ways to live a happy life.
Happiness is a mindset. So one goal you might set yourself is to build a mindset of
happiness.

Being happy is not a skill you were born with. Babies have to actively learn to
smile and to laugh. That’s the reason why many buy new stuff all the time in their
search for happiness. They haven’t been taught how to produce happiness
themselves. Happiness is a matter of mindfulness, of focusing your attention on the
right things. In order to bring more happiness to your life – both on the good days
and on the bad ones

This study aims to determine the various factors that influence happiness and
to explore the interplay between individual, social, and environmental determinants
of well-being. Additionally, it seeks to examine how individuals can set and achieve
meaningful goals in life and the personal strengths they leverage to realize those
aspirations. By identifying key contributors such as relationships, financial stability,
health, and personal growth, alongside the role of resilience, motivation, and
perseverance, the research provides actionable insights into fostering greater
happiness and success. Understanding these dynamics will help inform strategies
and interventions that promote both a fulfilling life and the achievement of personal
and societal goals.

SUMMARY

The responses to the questions reflect diverse perspectives on happiness, life

goals, and the support needed to achieve them, with significant differences observed
across various groups. These groups include students, professionals, housewives,
and farmers, each offering unique insights based on their life circumstances and
experiences. Despite these differences, certain common themes emerge, such as
the importance of family, faith, and hard work in finding happiness and achieving
personal goals.

For students, happiness is often connected to personal fulfillment, joy, and

satisfaction with one’s journey in life. It is frequently tied to moments of happiness,
whether in everyday life or through achieving milestones. Their goals are centered
on education, career success, and supporting their families, with hard work,
perseverance, and faith as the primary strategies to accomplish these aspirations.
Students recognize family, friends, mentors, and God as key sources of
encouragement and motivation in reaching their goals.

Professionals, on the other hand, view happiness as a complex emotional

state, emphasizing contentment, well-being, and positive life experiences. Their life
goals focus on career advancement, financial stability, and creating a positive impact
on others. Achieving these goals involves adaptability, clear planning, dedication,
and hard work. Additionally, professionals rely on the support of family, friends, and
faith to help them navigate their journey toward success, acknowledging that these
people provide both practical assistance and emotional strength.

For housewives, happiness is intrinsically tied to their relationships,

particularly with family. Their goals are often centered around their children’s
education and ensuring family unity, with spiritual growth playing an important role in
their life’s purpose. They rely on love, care, and perseverance to achieve their goals,
with family members and God being the core sources of support. The guidance of
loved ones and the belief in divine intervention are seen as critical in helping them
achieve their aspirations and find lasting happiness.
In the case of farmers, happiness is closely linked to the well-being and
contentment of their families, as well as their own sense of peace and satisfaction
with life. Their goals largely involve ensuring their children’s education, securing
financial stability, and maintaining good health. Hard work, sacrifice, and trust in God
are vital to achieving these goals. Like the other groups, farmers place significant
value on the support of family and faith, viewing these as fundamental to achieving
their aspirations and maintaining happiness.

Overall, while the responses from students, professionals, housewives, and

farmers reflect different life stages and experiences, a shared emphasis on family,
faith, and hard work emerges across all groups. Whether seeking personal fulfillment,
career success, or family well-being, individuals from all walks of life recognize the
importance of these core elements in achieving happiness and life goals. Ultimately,
the responses underscore the belief that success and happiness are not only
personal endeavors but are also deeply interconnected with the support of loved
ones and a higher power.
CONCLUSION

Happiness and life satisfaction are deeply personal and vary depending on
one’s life stage, responsibilities, and values. Across different demographics, people
tend to connect happiness with personal fulfillment, meaningful relationships, and
achieving life goals. While the pathways to happiness may differ, the common thread
remains the sense of contentment and well-being that emerges from personal
achievements, strong support networks, and a sense of purpose. The pursuit of
happiness often involves hard work, sacrifice, and the desire to contribute positively
to one’s community and family.

For students, happiness is often tied to personal fulfillment, joy, and

milestones in life, with their primary goals revolving around education, career
success, and family support. They rely on perseverance and faith, finding motivation
from family, friends, mentors, and God. Professionals, on the other hand, view
happiness as a complex emotional state, emphasizing contentment, well-being, and
career advancement. They focus on financial stability, personal development, and
creating a positive impact, with clear planning and dedication as their primary
strategies. Housewives connect happiness most closely to family, particularly
children’s education and family unity, with spiritual growth playing a significant role.
They rely on love, care, and perseverance to achieve these goals, drawing strength
from family and faith. Farmers, too, view happiness through the lens of family well-
being, education, and financial stability, with hard work and trust in God as central to
their approach to achieving contentment.

Therefore, the best semantic word to describe the answers of the respondents
is "life satisfaction" or "well-being." This term encapsulates the various ways each
group (students, professionals, housewives, and farmers) views happiness, which is
rooted in their life goals, relationships, personal growth, and the support they receive
from family, faith, and other key figures in their lives. These elements collectively
reflect an overall sense of contentment and fulfillment, making "life satisfaction" or
"well-being" the most comprehensive term for describing their answers.
