Announcements
Each time you login, you will automatically be taken to this area of the course. You will find
news from the facilitator posted here, so check out this area frequently throughout your course.

Facilitator Information
This is where you will find contact information and background information regarding the
facilitator.

Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is fundamental to student success within the college environment.
Understanding academic integrity ensures that students have the knowledge to complete their
studies with honesty and fairness.

This course includes an Academic Integrity Module that provides information regarding
cheating, plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Please complete this module to obtain an
understanding of expectations regarding academic integrity within this course.

The module consists of definitions, examples, case scenarios and quizzes.

The module is not graded and can be completed several times to assist with your academic
journey.

Course Information
In this folder, you will find the following administrative and introductory information. Note that the
course outline will indicate any textbook, software and/or technical requirements.

Getting Started Checklist:


A checklist that will ensure that you have completed all introductory tasks necessary to start the
course.

Course Outline:
An overview of the course, including learning objectives, assessments, technical requirements,
and required materials (textbooks and/or software) for the course. Be sure to print and keep a
copy for your records.

Course Calendar:
Gives you an overview of the course schedule and structure. This includes, lesson identification,
topics and assessment/activities. If the course includes a final exam, it will be listed in the
calendar within the assessments.

Course Evaluation:
A link to an OntarioLearn course survey. You should complete this survey near the end of the
course.

Lessons/Learning Content
The lessons are posted in the Lessons or Learning Content area. This is where you will find
your weekly lessons and course content. Select the applicable lesson for the week you are
working in.

Assignments/Assessments
The evaluated assessment details are available in the Assignments or Assessments area.
This is where you will find all assessment details and submission requirements. Select the
applicable assessment for the week you are working in.

Assignment marks will be available for your review through the My Grades tool on the left-hand
navigation bar in the course.

Discussion Board
This is where you will post your student profile, and where you can post public questions to the
facilitator about the course material.

You can also communicate publically with the other students in the class by posting messages
in the Discussion Board area of the course.

To do this, click on the Discussion Board button on the course menu. Click on the forum title
(e.g. "Student Profile") to enter the Forum and then select "Create Thread" to post your
message. If you would like to respond to an existing message, select the message and click
the reply button at the bottom of the message.

Administrative Questions
Administrative questions such as withdrawal dates, refunds, textbooks, exams should be
directed to the college you registered with. You will usually find contact information within
information you received upon registration. You can also find your college information here:

Course Questions
Questions which include due dates, evaluation criteria or the course material itself should be
directed to your facilitator.

How to Communicate with your Facilitator


All questions to the facilitator should be communicated through email using the email
information provided in the Facilitator Information section of the course.

How to Communicate with your Classmates


You can communicate with the other students in the class by posting messages in the Discussion
Board area of the course. To do this, click on the Discussion Board button on the course menu.
Click on the forum title (e.g. " Student Profile") to enter the Forum and then select "Create Thread"
to post your message. If you would like to respond to an existing message, select the message
and click the reply button at the bottom of the message.

Facilitator and Student Responsibilities
Facilitator’s responsibilities throughout this course will be to:
• Guide you through the materials
• Provide explanations and examples
• Make the learning environment a safe and interactive
• Respond to your questions (within a 48 hour period during business days)
• Mark assignments and give you feedback (within a 7 business day period)

Student responsibilities, in order to benefit most from this course are to:
• Adhere to the Student Code of Conduct at all times
• Update your personal information with a valid email address
• Review all Announcements on a weekly or better basis, especially if you have been away
from the course for some time
• Work through the online course materials
• Purchase the appropriate textbook ASAP
• Refer to and study the appropriate readings, as recommended
• Complete assignments and tests on time
• Participate in any required discussions, and check the Discussion Board regularly
• Read the Discussion Board postings of other students. They are likely to contain questions
and comments that will benefit you. Feel free to ask questions of your classmates and talk to
one another generally.

Grading Policies

Final Grades
The official final grade is issued by the student’s registering college and is available in your
college’s student information system. This may take up to three weeks after the course end
date.

Submission Deadlines
All due dates for assessments within the course calendar/schedule are final unless
otherwise specified. While some courses have flexible schedules based on the course
material, some courses have firm deadlines. If you are unable to meet a firm deadline, due
to extenuating circumstances, you must contact your facilitator to determine if an extension
may be granted. If an assessment with a firm deadline is not submitted by its respective due
date, it will be assigned a grade of zero unless otherwise discussed with your facilitator.

About OntarioLearn
OntarioLearn is a consortium of 24 Ontario Community Colleges who have partnered to develop
and deliver online courses for adult learners. Each partner college selects courses from the
OntarioLearn course inventory that will complement its existing distance education offerings.
The college who developed the course is called the Host College. You may have registered at
another college. In this instance your college is called the Registering College. You will likely be
taking this course with students from several different colleges across Ontario. We hope that you
