ABSTRACT

This paper introduces the concept of a Multi-purpose

Sieving Machine, which is mostly used in
manufacturing. Every activity has been made faster and
easier in this world as a result of technical
advancements, and every industry aspires to achieve a
high production rate while keeping product quality and
standard at a low average cost.

We've created a conceptual model of a machine that

can conduct multiple operations at the same time and
with ease. In this machine, we employ a motor to drive
the main shaft, and the slider-crank mechanism is
directly coupled to the motor; the slider-crank
mechanism is used for sawing. With the help of a DC
motor, the table is fastened with a crank that moves the
tray to vibrate it and act as a divider. And the
main/driven shaft of the motor is attached to a pulley
mechanism. As a result, the Sieving Machine was
designed and manufactured to assist industrialists and
farmers on the global market. The benefit is the ability
to easily separate objects according to mesh, as well as
a reduction in costs related with electricity usage, an
improvement in production rate, and the ability to
generate less space, among other things.

Keywords: Sieving mesh, grinding, single slider crank

mechanism, agricultural purpose, etc.

Chapter -1
1.1 Introduction
A multipurpose sieving machine is a device used to separate
particles of different sizes from a mixture. It is a versatile machine
that can be used in various industries such as agriculture, food
processing, pharmaceuticals, and mining. The machine can sieve
different materials such as grains, sand, gravel, powders, and liquids.

The machine consists of a sieve, a motor, and a frame. The sieve is

made up of a mesh or perforated surface that allows particles of a
certain size to pass through. The motor drives the sieve to vibrate,
which causes the particles to move along the sieve and separate
according to their size. The frame provides support for the sieve and
the motor.

The multipurpose sieving machine has several advantages over

manual sieving. It is faster and more efficient, and it can sieve large
quantities of material in a short time. The machine is also more
accurate and consistent in its results, ensuring a uniform size
distribution of particles. This makes it an essential tool in quality
control processes.

Overall, the multipurpose sieving machine is a valuable asset to any

industry that requires particle size separation. Its versatility,
efficiency, and accuracy make it an indispensable tool for many
applications.

The scope of the project includes the design of the machine parts
using engineering design software, how to fabricate these parts,
assembly them to give a uniform system operation.

pg. 8
1.3 Types of sieving machine:
1.3.1 Rotary sand screening machine:

In this type, the sieving will be done by the rotation of the cylindrical
part of the machine, (see fig. below). They are either hand-operated
or power-driven.
For the mechanical machine, the gearbox is attached to the shaft of
the cylinder, which is driven by the motor of the required capacity.
Some manufacturers also provide handles at the other end, to run
them, in the case of a power outage.

In the manually operated machine, the handle will be provided to

the shaft of the drum, for rotation.

pg. 9
Sand should be poured into the hopper and the sieved sand gets
collected beneath the cylinder, or in front of it. In some regions, the
cylindrical drum is also called a trammel drum, and hence the
machinery is said a trammel drum screening machine.

1.3.2 Vibratory sand screening machine:

In this type, the sieving will be done by the vibration of the screening
table of the machine. Unlike the rotary type, these machines are only
power-driven.
They are classified into two main types according to their vibratory
motion, that is
1. A linear vibratory screening machine:

2. A circular vibratory screening machine:

pg. 10
Sand is poured over the vibratory table and the sieved sand gets
collected in the sloppy tray provided at the bottom, which separates
them in different directions. In these two types, circular vibratory is
more efficient in screening wet sand.

1.3.3 Sand screening cum washing machine:

In this type, after screening the sand, washing will be done in the
second layer simultaneously to remove the silt, dirt, and unwanted
chemicals from the sieved sand. This machine saves power and
labour costs when the sand brought from the supplier needs
washing. Otherwise, you have to install a separate sand washing
machine to carry out this washing process.

2.1 PROBLEM DEFINITION AND DESCRIPTION

Before the invention of sieving machines, the sieving process was

typically done manually using a mesh or sieve. This manual process
was much harder and time-consuming compared to the use of
sieving machines today. Here are some of the ways in which sieving
process was hard before the sieving machine:
1. Labor-Intensive: The manual sieving process was labor-
intensive and required significant effort, particularly when
sieving large quantities of material.
2. Time-Consuming: Manual sieving was a time-consuming
process, particularly when large quantities of material needed
to be sieved. This significantly reduced productivity and
increased the time required to complete the process.
3. Inconsistent Results: The manual sieving process often
produced inconsistent results due to the variations in the
amount of force applied during the sieving process. This
inconsistency led to the production of materials with varying
particle size distributions.
4. Risk of Injury: The manual sieving process involved physical
labor, which exposed workers to the risk of injury, particularly
when dealing with large quantities of material.
5. Inefficient: The manual sieving process was inefficient,
particularly when dealing with fine particles that required a
more delicate touch to avoid damaging the sieve.

pg. 12
2.2 HOW AUTOMATION HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE
The purpose behind making multipurpose sieving machines is to
automate and improve the process of particle size separation in
various industries. These machines are designed to perform sieving
tasks quickly, accurately, and efficiently, making them an
indispensable tool for many applications. Here are some of the key
reasons behind making multipurpose sieving machines:
1. Efficiency: Multipurpose sieving machines are designed to
perform sieving tasks much faster than manual sieving, thereby
improving efficiency and reducing the time required for the
process.
2. Accuracy: These machines provide accurate and consistent
results, ensuring that the particle size distribution is the same
across different batches of materials.
3. Versatility: Multipurpose sieving machines are designed to sieve
a wide range of materials, including powders, liquids, and solids,
making them useful in different industries such as food
processing, mining, and agriculture.
4. Quality Control: The accurate separation of materials based on
their particle size ensures that the final product meets the
required specifications, reducing waste and rework.
5. Safety: The use of multipurpose sieving machines can reduce the
risk of injuries associated with manual sieving, as it minimizes
human intervention.

Multipurpose sieving machines have significantly increased

productivity in various industries by automating the particle size
separation process.

3.1 DESIGN CONCEPT
The design of sieve machine must have based on much aspect
actually. The design consideration must be done carefully so that the
design can be fabricate easily and the system functioning. Then the
material used in each design influence the selection thing because
absolutely we need a lightweight material suitable with product size.
The design is separated into three phases, firstly choose as many
proposed design can be produce then choose 4 designs and try to
improve it functionality and the last one is a new design with
detail thing including dimension by using Solid Work software.
Beside that the cost to design and fabricate must reasonable
mustn’t exceeded the budget given try to reduce waste . The
criteria that must be considered in designing the sieve machine are:
Durability: sieve machine must be durable when rotate and vibrate.
Material: The material that will be used must be suitable to fabricate
the Sieve machine and easy to get.

pg. 14
3.2 WORKING PRINCIPLE OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

The Horizontal sieving machine is very easy to construct and can be

operated easily. It is very economic among this kind of machines. This
project is fabricated with the help of parts like a motor, crank and
slider link mechanism, bearing, caster wheels, sieving box. The
horizontal sieving machine is worked on the basis of crank and slider
mechanism. Here crank is attached to the sieve box the power is given
by motor through pulley belt arrangement. The rail track is attached
at the base in which the sieving box moves in it. The sieving box fixed
with the crank shaft in order to move when the crank shaft is
reciprocated. The sieving box is placed inside the rail track and the
machine is started. When the sieving box moves in the reciprocating
motion the sieving process is performed.

In summary, a sieving machine works on the principle of vibration

and gravity to separate and grade materials based on their particle
size. The machine consists of a vibrating screen with several layers of
mesh arranged in decreasing order of size. As the machine vibrates,
the material to be sieved falls through the meshes in a controlled
manner, with larger particles remaining on the top layer and smaller
particles passing through the lower layers of mesh.

5.2 SCOPE FOR FUTURE WORK:
The project can be made for higher capacities by increasing the
dimension and improving the design aspects. Based on the
required sand particle size, the mesh can be changed. The
machine can be operated using solar energy also which is
economically useful.

5.3 ALTERNATIVE CONCEPT

As stated earlier, the main objective of the project is to design and
construct an industrial sand sieving machine. To do this, the
machine:

➢ Is fed with rough sand into a hopper;

➢ A tilted rotating drum attached to a sieve of suitable microns
agitates the sand and sieves the rough sand and also discharges
the unwanted sand (slug) by gravity
➢ Transports the fine sand (sieved sand) to its desired location
(when used on construction site) or collected for storage
purpose and dose the same with the unwanted sand for
disposal.

Conclusion
To sum up the project thus far, after conducting study, four
various types of sieving machines were conceptualized, with the
best one being chosen after taking into account all factors in order
to make it more efficient, portable, and simple to operate. Then,
despite the fact that the fabrication process was unavoidable
owing to the circumstances, we preceded the design process in
Solid Works and performed some basic calculations. This report
also includes a flowchart and a Gantt chart for the construction
process and research design. This form of sieving machine,
according to calculations and assumptions, will be efficient and
simple to operate, allowing society to learn a new way of sifting
sand. After a thorough analysis of the literature, it was discovered
that there is no precise solution for separating distinct grain sizes.
As a result, an inventive solution was designed and built in the
shape of a domestic sieving machine. The key results are that it
improves grain quality, reduces human effort, saves time and
money, and is better suited for small businesses.
