The Civic Welfare Training Service Program II (CWTSP II) is a second semester
course which consist of projects and activities designed to encourage the students to
contributes in the improvement of the general welfare and the quality of life for the local
community and its various institutional components more particularly in terms to improving
health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizenry.
It includes lectures, community immersions/exposures and civic community projects
implementation. The student is given the opportunity to do actual civic/ community service under
the supervision of the teacher- facilitator. Through the different projects planned, implemented
and evaluated by the students themselves, they are expected to become civic /community
minded and socially responsible.
Defining Community
People in certain barangay or city bounded with common beliefs and practices. They
are also obliged to follow barangay or city ordinances, policy and guidelines to establish
harmonious relationship among neighborhood and to strengthen peace and order. This group of
people in certain geographical area like your barangay is called a Community and you are part
of your community.

What is the relevance of knowing and understanding our community? Being a student,
part of your NSTP course is community immersion. In NSTP framework, community immersion
can be defined as an approach to student empowerment aiming to strengthen social awareness
and responsibility to their communities. NSTP students should be exposed and immersed in
actual community life to fully understand and determine the social, economic and political
situation of the people within a particular community.
SEC. 3 Definition of Terms – For the purposes of this Act, the following are hereby defined as
follows:
(a) “National Service Training Program (NSTP)” is a programmed aimed at enhancing civic
consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of services and
patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three
(3) program components. Its various components are especially designed to enhance the
youth’s active contribution to the general welfare.
(b) “Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC)” is a program institutionalized under sections 38
and 39 of Republic Act No. 7077 designed to provide military training to tertiary level students in
order to motivate, train, organize and mobilize them for national defense preparedness.
(c) Literacy Training Service” is a program designed to train students to become teachers of
literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth, and other segments of
society in need of their service.
(d) “Civic Welfare Training Service” refers to program or activities contributory to the general
welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement,
entrepreneurship, safety recreation and morals of the citizenry.
Before community immersion, NSTP students undergo orientation and familiarization of actual
community setting through lectures, group dynamics and community setting through lectures,
group dynamics and community ocular visitation. Through these strategies, student have a
chance to identify and internalize the felt needs of a community and let them feel their
belongingness on that community. They have also opportunities to analyze community situation
and how could they come up a specific group of people in the community.
During community immersion, NSTP students are ready and equipped to mobilize and organize
target community group for the implementation of their community intervention program. NSTP
students are required to record their insights, problems and challenges encountered, and the
process of community intervention program implementation.
After community immersion, NSTP students document their observations, experiences, and
lessons learned in conducting community intervention program. They have to discuss also their
recommendation for the sustainability of the intervention they conducted in the community.
Presenting of their report to community stakeholders is highly encouraged. The next chapters of
this book will discuss thoroughly the process of community immersion.
To help the students to become better person on having relation to the needy to whom
much is given and much is required. It’s help the youth on how to make people more active in
the environment and lead the country to change and solve problems encounter of our
communities, by the youth we encouraged people to speak up and looking forward on how
young generation will work for us.
Community immersion learning fulfills many of the school’s goals for students – becoming
involved citizens, learning through worthwhile tasks, and developing leadership, advocacy and
problem-solving skills.
It provides another avenue for students to discover new interests and become potential
CWTS-LTS Mentors. Community immersion in service learning is defined as a method in the

Under which young people learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully
organized experiences that meet actual community needs that are coordinated with the school
and community, and it is integrated with specific learning objectives and it provides structured
time for youth to think, talk or write about what they did and saw during the actual service
activity.
It provides young people with opportunities to use newly acquired skills and knowledge in
real life -situations in their own communities. And it also enhances what is taught in school by
extending student learning beyond the classroom and into the community.
This is related to community development and social justice; it also helps to foster a
sense of caring for others through direct involvement and lastly is that is supported by regular
assessment to provide feedback and guide improvement.
VOLUNTEERISM
WHAT IS VOLUNTEERISM?
Volunteering is also famous for skill development, socialization and fun. It is also intended
to make contacts for possible employment or for a variety of other reasons. It takes many forms
and can be performed by anyone with his or her own set of skills. Many volunteers are
specifically trained in the areas they work in, such as medicine, education, or emergency
rescue. Other volunteers serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural
disaster or for a beach-cleanup.
TYPES OF VOLUNTEERISM
Connecting with your community with other people especially those “in need” we receive
not only the praises and compliments but also the feeling of self-worth and respect, by helping
others make us realize that even a simple individual like us is capable of changing the society.
In conserving the funds of charities, nonprofits and faith-based and other community
organizations by contributing your time, helping others brings good feelings to the giver and the
receiver of the good deeds, using our special gifts to help others can be a gift to us as we enjoy
a self-esteem boost for making other’s lives better, and make the world a better place.
In sharing your skills and gain new ones, by utilizing our skills for the better and while doing
these sorts of stuffs we will gain new skills and talents that beneficial to others and to ourselves
as well. By developing the self- esteem and self-confidence in volunteerism, a charitable act that
requires confidence and self-esteem on the part of the doers, by participating regularly it boost
our confidence through constant interactions and socialization with the other volunteers and
clienteles. And in meeting new people from all walks of life, in helping others means meeting
others.
