ASSURE Model Lesson Plan

Topic of Study: Passive voice


Students’ Name: Dheya Al-Kharousi, Aisha Al-Buriki, and Zuhoor Al-Naifi
Grade Level: 10
Subject: English language
Length of Lesson: 45 minutes
Analyze Learners

• Students’ Characteristics:

This lesson is prepared for 10th-grade school students. Their class has a population of 30
students, and all of them are females. There are no students with mental or physical
disabilities, and most of them are average to above-average achievers. They enjoy learning
the English language, and they engage more through watching videos. Most of them come
from middle class families.

• Current Knowledge:

Students know how to form a sentence (the structure of the active sentence), and they
are familiar with all types of tenses and aware of the differences between them.

• Learning Style:

Learning styles in this class vary. The majority of students are either visual or authority
(some students have both) and few students (7 students) are kinesthetic.

State Objectives
Lesson Objective(s): ABCD

By the end of this 45-minute lesson, students will be able to:


1- Recognize clearly the uses and structures of the passive voice through the
lesson presentation.
2- Identify sentences correctly as active or passive voice through reading a short
story. 3- Work in groups to accurately rewrite active voice sentences into as passive
voice sentences by looking at pictures.
4- Perform the rules of using the passive voice through playing Kahoot and writing
and solving riddles with few grammatical errors.

Select Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials

• Strategies: The teacher will use both subject- center and learners- center strategies
(constructivism). Also, he will use discovery and collaborative group work.

• Media: Students will use visual photos to rewrite active voice sentences into as passive
voice sentences. The teacher will show a video to provide more explanation.

• Technology: Teacher will present his/her topic through projected materials like
projector. Students will use their laptops to access the Kahoot game.

• Materials: Students will use their English textbook, and an educational game (Kahoot)
will be used to evaluate students’ performance.

Utilize Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials


• Preview the materials and technology:
⇒ Viewing a video that has more explanation of the structures and uses of passive
voice, viewing photos to rewrite active voice sentences into as passive voice
sentences, and viewing a Kahoot game in the projector that contains a reviewing
questions about passive voice.

• Prepare the materials, media, and technology:


⇒ Laptops, projectors, Wi if connection with a high speed, visual photos and smart
white board (interactive board)

• Prepare the environment:


⇒ The lesson will take place in a large classroom which consists of a projector and a high
speed Wi-Fi. The desks will be organized to form 6 groups in order to facilitate group
work and discussion. The environment has a great quality of lightening and a
comfortable temperature. The projectors and Laptops will be placed in front of
students. Other materials like visual photos and other things related will be prepared
to use them effectively during the lesson. Each student will have a laptop or an iPad.
The students are expected to participate in both individual and group activities in
order to engage them to the educational process and make the lesson more effective.

• Prepare the learners:


⇒ At the start of the lesson, students will be introduced to the objectives of the
lesson. Then, students will receive a copy of brief summary of the passive voice uses.

• Provide the learning experiences:


⇒ After asking the students a riddle that contains of passive voice, the teacher will
explain the structure and uses of the passive voice in the interactive board. Then, he\she
will show a video in the projector to provide more explanation and examples for
students.

Also, students will be asked to rewrite active voice sentences into as passive voice
sentences by looking at pictures. Moreover, they will be asked to read a short story
in order to identify sentences as active or passive voice. At the end of the lesson,
students will apply what they learn through writing and solving riddles which use
the passive voice, and they will play Kahoot game to answer multiple-choice
questions.
Require Learner Participation

We will complete this topic in a single class session (90 minutes). Through both individual
and group exercises, the class will involve the students actively. The way this lesson is set up
will both include students in the learning process and increase its effectiveness.
Each student will attempt to predict the lesson's topic after the teacher presents a riddle at
the start of the class. Following that, after seeing a film, students will attempt to respond to a
few questions posed by the instructor. Each student will utilize a device to access "Kahoot" at
the conclusion of class and complete the questions.

Evaluate & Revise


The students will be assessed through three domains:

Multiple Choice (objective type):


Via using Kahoot game, which includes multiple choice questions, the teacher will examine
the cognitive level of the students towards the topic (passive voice).

writing sentences based on visual photos (subjective type):


Through writing short sentences using passive voice, the teacher will test the
students’ understanding of the structure and uses of the passive voice.

Performance:
aligned outcome-based education, the students will apply what they have learned through
writing and solving riddles that has few grammatical errors in passive term. This
assessment will be graded through the rubrics.

At the end of the lesson, there will be feedback that allows the students to share their ideas
perception, and their point of view about the lesson as the teacher will listen to them. Also,
this will the students to have a better understanding of the topic.

Revised:
The teacher will determine whether the lesson is effective or not through the performance of
the students during the class activities and the result of the game and the short assessment
well .For the revision, strategies, materials, media and technology, should align with the
lesson objectives, learners interests and learning styles.
