the Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Exploration, and Scientific Revolution in
Europe through a project inspired by the innovative visual concept of Atlas
Mnemosyne by Aby Warburg.

 Access to images and resources related to the Renaissance, Reformation,

Age of Exploration, and Scientific Revolution.
 Art supplies (if creating physical projects).
 Computers with software for digital creation (if creating digital projects).
 Rubric (see below).

Activity Steps:

1. Introduction to Atlas Mnemosyne:

o Provide an overview of Aby Warburg’s Atlas Mnemosyne, highlighting
its unique approach to visual representation and the connection of
images across different cultures and time periods.

that are relevant to the project: Renaissance, Reformation, Age of
Exploration, and Scientific Revolution.
2. Research and Concept Development:

Reformation, Age of Exploration, and Scientific Revolution), focusing
on significant events, figures, and cultural transformations.
o Encourage students to draw connections between these periods and
identify overarching themes, ideas, and changes that occurred.
3. Project Creation:
o Students create a visual representation inspired by Atlas Mnemosyne
that connects images or ideas from the Renaissance, Reformation,
Age of Exploration, and Scientific Revolution.
o Projects can include:
 Physical Collage or Poster: Using images, symbols, and text
to create a visual narrative.
 Digital Presentation: Creating a digital slideshow, video, or
website.
 Artistic Interpretation: Creating artwork (painting, sculpture,
etc.) that reflects the themes and ideas of the periods.
 Interactive Map: Creating an interactive map or timeline that
connects events and ideas from these periods.
4. Presentation and Reflection:
o Each student presents their project to the class, explaining how their
visual representation connects the themes and ideas of the
Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Exploration, and Scientific
Revolution.
o Students reflect on their understanding of the periods and the
connections they made between historical events and ideas.
5. Discussion and Feedback:
o Facilitate a class discussion on the various projects, exploring how
different students interpreted and connected the historical periods.
o Provide constructive feedback based on the rubric criteria.
