HOW IS POWERPOINT USED?

According to Pueblo City-County Library, PowerPoint is used by students,

teachers, companies, and for fun. Teacher use PowerPoint for their instruction
to show how to complete a task. Students use PowerPoint to present their
assignments to classes. Companies use PowerPoint to instruct staff on
policies or to discuss budgets. Users have used PowerPoint to display family
photos at weddings or funerals. PowerPoint presentations are usually
displayed on a screen behind a speaker. PowerPoint presentations usually
contain a large amount of images with little text. Meant to grab the
audiences’ attention.
WHAT IS AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION?

An effective presentation makes the best use of the

relationship between the presenter and the audience. It takes
full consideration of the audience's needs in order to capture
their interest, develop their understanding, inspire their
confidence and achieve the presenter's objectives.
TIPS IN CREATING AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION

1. Minimize
Keep slide counts to a minimum to maintain a clear
message and to keep the audience attentive.
Remember that the presentation is just a visual aid.
Most information should still come from the
reporter.
TIP: TOO WORDY
Too many words! Your presentation is meant to keep
you on task and aid you during your presentation. You do
not want to have your audience reading this while you
are presenting. They will be too busy reading to listen to
your message. PowerPoint should only contain short
statements to enhance your message.
2.Clarity
Avoid being fancy by using a font style that is easy to
read. Make sure that it is also big enough to be read by the
audience. Once start making your presentation, consider
how big the screen is during your report.
Tip: A font size of 72 is about an inch (depends on the screen size). A one-
inch letter is readable 10 feet away; a two-inch letter is readable 20 feet
away.
3. Simplicity
Use bullets or short sentences. Summarize
the information on the screen to have your
audience focus on what the speaker is saying than
on reading the slide. Limit the content to six lines
and seven words per line. This is known as the 6 x
7 rule.
4. Visuals
Use graphics to help in your presentation but
not too many to distract the audience. In addition,
instead of using a table of data, use charts and
graphs.
5. Consistency
Make your design uniform. Avoid having
different font styles and backgrounds.
6. Contrast
Use light font on dark background or vice
versa. This is done so that it is easier to read. In
most instances, it is easier to read on screen if the
background is dark. This is due to the brightness of
the screen.
ADD AN ANIMATION
1.Select the object or text
on the slide that you
want to animate.

2. On the Animations tab

of the ribbon, click Add
Animation, and pick an
animation effect.
There are four different types of animation effects:
➢Entrance effects make an object fade gradually into focus, fly
onto the slide from an edge, or bounce into view.
➢Exit effects include making an object fly off of the slide,
disappear from view, or spiral off of the slide.
➢Emphasis effects include making an object shrink or grow in
size, change color, or spin on its center.
➢You can use Motion Paths to make an object move up or
down, left or right, or in a star or circular pattern (among other
effects). You also can draw your own motion path.
TO REMOVE AN ANIMATION

1. Select the numeral of the animation that you want to

remove.

2. Press the Delete key on your keyboard.

CHANGE THE PLAYING ORDER OF ANIMATION EFFECTS

with the animation effects
that you want to reorder.
2. On the Animations tab, click
Animation Pane.

animation effect you want to move, and drag it up
or down to a new position. In the picture below,
we’re moving the 1st animation effect down below
the 3rd one. Then release the mouse button

You can apply motion path animation effects to

move slide objects in a sequence that tell an
effective story.
