Narrative Report On Work Immersion
Work Immersion
Introduction:
Embarking on a journey of gaining experience, I, Jayson
Perfecto M. Navales, a senior student at Basilio B. Chan
Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School (BBCMAIS),
recently engaged in a 10-day work immersion program at
a local government unit within our municipality. The
objective of this endeavor was to immerse ourselves in a
real-world work environment and to apply the knowledge
and skills learned during our studies.
Days 1-5:
The inception of our immersion saw my classmates and
me stationed at the reception area. During the initial
three days, our responsibilities primarily encompassed
mundane tasks such as compiling barangay lists and
organizing file boxes. Despite the simplicity of these jobs,
I looked at how much reports and other documents they
have and had a glimpse of how complex the work they do
there. However, as the week progressed, our engagement
dwindled, and the latter two days were marked by a
notable absence of assigned tasks, leaving us relegated
to idleness within the reception area.
Days 6-10:
The second phase of our immersion proved to be an
opportunity to observe more. While the initial days were
just being familiar with the environment, the latter half
presented an opportunity for deeper reflection. Freed
from the shackles of assigned duties, I found myself
delving into the intricacies of governance through
observation and conversation. (I was actually just idling
with my phone and only observed the work in the office
from the reception.). There was some noteworthy events
like a welcome party for a new employee in the
accounting office and we were invited, the flag ceremony
where the mayor attended and made an announcement.
Reflection:
Though my work immersion experience may have fallen
short of initial expectations, it was not devoid of value or
experience. I did managed to have a glimpse on the
sheer size of the work they do inside that office. Through
this experience, I learned the importance of adaptability
and patience (Also finding ways to relieve my boredom), I
also did learn to greet every single person going in and
out of the building. While the absence of assigned tasks
may have initially seemed somewhat disappointing
considering how much nervous I actually was at the start
but it was still a valuable experience which helped me
broaden my horizons.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, my work immersion at the local
government unit, though not without its lulls, proved to
be a successful mission. While the final days were,
disappointing, I did gained some insights on the work of
the government. I depart from this experience armed with
newfound insights and perspectives, ready to prepare for
a whole new aspect of my life, college. I extend my
heartfelt gratitude to Basilio B. Chan Memorial
Agricultural and Industrial School for affording me this
invaluable opportunity for growth and exploration. As I
embark on the next chapter of my academic and
professional journey, I carry with me the lessons learned
and experiences gained, poised to make meaningful
contributions to the world around me.
