Chapter lll

Research Methodology

This chapter explains various methodologies that were used in gathering data and
analysis which are relevant to the research. The methodologies will include areas such
as the location of the study, research design, sampling and sample size, types of data,
data collection method and its management. This research is conducted to provide
insights into the relationship between social media use and study habits among senior
high school students. The aspects included in this chapter are Research Design, Locale
of the study, Sample and the Sampling Techniques, Total Population, Data Gathering
Tool and Data Gathering.

Locale of the Study

This research will be conducted in the selected section of the Senior Highschool
students Basilio B. Chan Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School (B.B.C.M.A.I.S.)
which is located in Barangay Sabang Tabok Lavezares Northern Samar. Senior
Highschool students of B.B.C.M.A.I.S. covers a population of 800 (Eight Hundred ),
we've selected 5 students in different sections coming from grade 11 and 12. The
respondents of this study has the capacity and knowledge to give us the data we
needed for this study.

Research Design

Sampling

In this study the sample selected is 5 (Five) students in different section in Basilio
B. Chan Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School (B.B.C.M.A.I.S.) who has the
capacity to give the information the researchers needed . The sampling method of this
study will be convenience sampling where units are selected for inclusion in the sample
because they are the easiest for the researcher to access.

Data Gathering Tool

To get the information and data's that we needed the tool we will use in gathering
data is Semi structured, where we will ask the respondent some necessary question
and follow ups for clarifications.

Data Gathering Procedure

Research Questions:
Good morning/afternoon, we are students from Basilio B. Chan Memorial Agricultural
and Industrial School conducting an interview for our Practical Research 1 and our topic
is about "Senior High school students usage of social media in relation to their study
habits". Please feel free to express your thoughts openly and honestly throughout the
interview. Rest assured that any information shared during this interview will be treated
with confidentiality and used solely for the intended purpose. We only want you to
answer this questions truthfully.

1.)How does the frequency and duration of social media usage among Senior High
School students correlate with their academic performance?

2.) What are the perceived psychological effects of social media use on the well-being
and self-esteem of Senior High School students?

3.) How do social media platforms influence the social interactions and relationships of
Senior High School students both online and offline?

4.) What are the potential risks and challenges associated with social media use among
Senior High School students, such as cyberbullying, privacy concerns, and engagement
in risky online behaviors?

5.) What strategies can be implemented to promote responsible and beneficial social
media use among Senior High School students, considering their academic
performance, psychological well-being, and overall development?

6.) How do different social media platforms and their features (e.g., Instagram,
Snapchat, Facebook) impact the behaviors and attitudes of Senior High School
students?

7.) What are the perceptions and experiences of Senior High School students regarding
the influence of social media on their daily lives, academic pursuits, and social
interactions?

8.) Are there significant gender differences in social media usage patterns, effects, and
perceptions among Senior High School students?

9.) How do the socio-economic backgrounds of Senior High School students relate to
their social media usage and its impact on their educational outcomes and social
relationships?

10.)What interventions, guidelines, or educational programs can be implemented in


Senior High School settings to enhance students' digital literacy skills, critical thinking,
and responsible use of social media?

We the grade 11 ABM/GA students of Basilio B. Chan Memorial Agricultural and


Industrial School request your permission to conduct an interview around the campus
as part of our research paper in Practical Research 1. The aim of this interview is to
gather valuable insights and perspectives from the senior high school students about
their usage of social media in relation to their study habits within the school community.
We assure you that all the information gathered will be treated with the utmost
confidentiality and used solely for the intended purpose stated in the interview. Any
personal or sensitive data shared will be handled with the utmost care and in
compliance with applicable privacy laws.
We are also happy to meet with you beforehand to discuss any specific guidelines
or requirements you may have for conducting interviews within the school premises. We
understand that the school administration is responsible for ensuring the well-being and
