ABSTRACT
We are seeing a growing demand for home automation in every walk
of life. Home automation has countless benefits ranging from
convenience to improved security. They also reduce power
consumption and consequently, energy costs. Home automation refers
to a central control of electronic appliances via a mobile application .
In this design, the system controls the electronic device by utilizing
user-based interface and speech recognition software by using micro-
controller (Arduino) and a Bluetooth module (HC05) and a
mechanical relay acting as a switch for controlling the devices.

The main purpose of this home automation system is to provide

convenience to the elderly and disabled people and easily control
home utilities through voice command.
Acknowledgement

INTRODUCTION
Home automation refers to the use of technology to control and automate
household appliances and systems. This report presents a project on home
automation of electric appliances such as bulbs, fans and air conditioners. The
aim of this project is to make homes more convenient, comfortable and energy-
efficient.
The main components are Arduino board, HC05 bluetooth module, a relay
module and a controller application. The data is sent from the smartphone using
the controller App, then the Bluetooth module receives this data and pass this
data to the Arduino. Arduino decodes the data , and send a command to the
relay module to operate the devices.

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP

Arduino Uno board: A microcontroller board that is widely used for

building
electronic projects. It contains a microprocessor, input/output pins, and a
programming interface for writing and uploading code to the board. The
Arduino Uno
is compatible with a wide range of sensors, actuators, and other electronic
components.
Bluetooth module HC-05: It is used for wireless serial communication
and is
used widely because of its low cost. It communicates with
microcontrollers.
using its serial port [USART], providing short-range connections for
devices such as mobile phones and pc.

Relay module: a relay module is a circuit board that performs a

switch-like function for one or more relays. It uses the mechanism of
an electromagnetic attraction.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE
1) To design and develop a home automation system that can control
electric appliances such as fans and air conditioners. Major home
utilities for our project are light, fan and TV. Each of them follows the
certain command that is programmed.

2) To reduce energy consumption by optimizing the use of electric

appliances. Lighting controls can be set on timers, preventing lights
from staying on all day or night, and hence limiting resource use.

3) To improve the convenience and comfort of home living, and

primarily improving the lives of elderly and disabled people by
making everyday means of doing things simpler for them. Its
implementation especially focuses on the needs of disabled people.

MATERIALS USED
HARDWARE:
• Arduino UNO
• Bluetooth module
• Resistor
• Relay module

OBSERVATIONS / RESULTS

In our report, we implemented a low cost and flexible home

Automation system using Arduino microcontroller based on the
bluetooth wireless system. We used Arduino because this is easy to
understand and programming portion is familiar to us.
By making use of this design we can increase the efficiency of the
appliances and also we can have the complete control over the home
appliances over a convenient amount of distance. This will be
incredibly beneficial for disabled people and it will reduce
unnecessary effort.
