Now, we are going to our new topic. (The class will answer randomly)
Teacher will call the learners randomly
In this picture class what did you see?
- Human body
- A mouth
- A pharynx
- A liver
- Small intestine
- Large intestines
- Rectum
- Anus

Class, what do you think is our lesson for today?

Very good!

But before we start, I want you to read our

objectives.

- Ma’am our lesson for today is Digestive System.

Ma’am our lesson objectives are:

1. Identify the parts and functions of the
digestive system.
2. Trace the flow of food in the digestive
system.
3. Compose paragraph that is related to the
sequence of events in the digestive
system.

Thank you for reading our objectives for today.

EXPLORE
Pre-Activity

Before we discuss further about Digestive System, I will you

an activity.
I want you to discover the different parts of the digestive
system.

The learners will sing “The wheels on the Bus” and every
stanza the song will stop and go to the board to label the
part that he/she choose. - The learners will try to label the parts on the
board
Digestive System

The answer of the learners will be the following:

- Mouth
- Pharynx
- Esophagus
- Liver
- Small intestine
- Large intestine
- Gall bladder
- Anus

Alright thank you students! Is everyone now alive?

Class, do you have any idea about Digestive System? - Yes Ma’am

EXPLAIN
Digestive System
- Is responsible for the processing and uptake of
nutrition

Again, what is the definition of our Digestive System?

(I will call of the student inside the classroom.)

Next let’s go to the main function of the digestive

system.

Digestive system has three main functions

1. Digestion of food - Ma’am it is all about digestion of food and taking
2. Absorption of nutrients up nutrition from the food that we eat.
3. Elimination of solid food waste

Again, class what are the three main function of the

Digestive System? Give me at least one.

Give the second class? Anyone?

And the last one?

- Ma’am! Digestion of food.

Digestion is the process of breaking down food into

components the body can absorb. - Ma’am absorption of nutrients

Two stages of digestion

1. Mechanical Digestion
- Takes place within the mouth and stomach. - Ma’am elimination of solid food waste.
2. Chemical Digestion
- Is the chemical breakdown of large, complex food
molecules into smaller pieces.

Try to guess what is the Mechanical and Physical

digestion.
- the left side will be the Mechanical Digestion
(The learners will point what is Mechanical Digestion
and the Chemical Digestion. - the right side will be the Chemical Digestion.

Very good Class.

Let’s go now to our next topic.

The Digestive Tract

- Also called alimentary canalor
gastrointestinal tract, consists of long
continuous tube that extends from the mouth to
the anus.
- the student must point where the mouth is
Digestive Organs located.
Can you locate the mouth?

Mouth
• Anterior opening - it is the anterior opening of the mouth
• Guarded by upper and lower lips
• Contains oral glands, tongue, and teeth. - it is guarded by the upper and lower lips.
Can you repeat the meaning of mouth? - Contains oral glands, tongue, and teeth.
Another?

The last one?

Very good class.

Now let’s proceed to the function of the mouth.

Function of the mouth - Ma’am the function of the mouth is Ingests food
• Ingests food
• Chews and mixes food - Ma’am the function of the mouth Chews and
• Begins chemical breakdown of carbohydrates mixes food
• Moves food into the pharynx
• Begins breakdown of lipids via lingual lipase
- Ma’am the function of the mouth Begins chemical

Class any one knows the location of the Pharynx in - Ma’am the function of the mouth Moves food into
our Digestive system? the pharynx

- Ma’am the function of the mouth Begins

breakdown of lipids via lingual lipase

- The student will locate the pharynx.

Pharynx
- It is the common passage way of food and air. - Ma’am it propels food from the oral cavity to the
esophagus
Function of pharynx
- Propels food from the oral cavity to the
esophagus - The student will locate the esophagus

Again, what is the main function of pharynx?

Class any one knows the location of the Esophagus in

our Digestive system?

Esophagus - Ma’am Pushes the food through the stomach

- Narrow muscular organ between the pharynx and
the stomach

Function of Esophagus
- Pushes the food through the stomach

Again, what is the function of esophagus?

Class any one knows the location of the stomach in - The student will locate the stomach
our Digestive system?

- Ma’am it is Mixes and churns food with gastric

Stomach juices to form chime
- The largest and highly muscular part of the
digestive tube.

Function of Stomach
- Mixes and churns food with gastric juices to form
chime

Again, what is the function of Stomach? - the student will locate the small intestine.

Class any one knows the location of the Small

Intestine in our Digestive system?

- Ma’am it mixes chime with digestive juices

Small Intestines
- The longest and most coiled part of the digestive
tube.

Function of Small Intestine

- Mixes chime with digestive juices
- the student will locate the large intestine
Again, what is the function of small intestine?

Class any one knows the location of the Large

Intestine in our Digestive system?

- Ma’am further breakdowns food residues.

Large Intestine
- Posterior part of the digestive tube.

Function of Large Intestine

- The student will locate the anus
- Further breakdowns food residues.

Again, what is the function of large intestine?

Class any one knows the location of the Anus in our

Digestive system?
- Ma’am it is the exit fecal matter, regulated by the
anal.

Anus
- Posterior opening of the digestive tube.

Function of Anus
- Exit fecal matter, regulated by the anal.

Again, what is the function of anus?

Parts of the Digestive Glands

- Ma’am it secretes saliva for lubrication of food in

the oral cavity
Salivary Glands
- Present only in terrestrial animals

Function
- Secrete saliva for lubrication of food in the oral
cavity

what is the function of salivary gland?

- Ma’am it secretes gastric juice.

Gastric Gland
- Found in the rugae (FOLDS) of the stomach

Function
- Secrete gastric juice

what is the function of gastric gland?

- Ma’am the function of pancreas I secretes

pancreatic juice and bicarbonate.

Pancreas
- Found along the peripheral surface of the
duodenum

Function
- Secretes pancreatic juice and bicarbonate

What is the function of pancreas?

- Ma’am the function of liver it secretes bile which

emulsify lipids, aiding their digestion and
absorption.
Liver
- The largest gland in the body
- Storage of glycogen

Function
- Secretes bile which emulsify lipids, aiding their
digestion and absorption.

What is the function of liver?

Gall Bladder
- A small pear-shaped organ on the right side of
your abdomen, just beneath your liver.

Function - Ma’am the function of gall bladder is it stores,

- Stores, concentrates and releases bile.

What is the function of gall bladder?

The digestive Process

Digestion starts when food is taken into the mouth.

This is called ingestion.
concentrates and releases bile.
Saliva is a watery liquid made by the salivary
glands.

Muscle contractions in the esophagus help move the

food down to the stomach. This process is called
peristalsis.

Stomach juices are chemicals made by the body

that help digest food.

The Digestive Glands in the stomach lining

produce acids and enzymes that digest proteins.

Digested molecules of food are absorbed through the

small intestine.

The walls of the small intestine contain folds that are

lined up with tiny fingerlike protrusions called villi.

These villi are in turn covered with even smaller

protrusions called microvilli.

The undigested parts of the food or those that were

not absorbed by the body are eliminated as feces.
This process is called elimination or defecation.
ELABORATE
For our actvity class. I want you to compose a The student will compose their own sentence about
paragraph based on our topic in digestive system. the sequence of the digestive system.

The sentence must have the following:

1. Sequence of events on our digestive system
2. The parts and a short function of that part
3. Summarization of our topic

I will give you 10 minutes to compose that

paragraph.
