COMPARISON OF THREE JOINING PROCESSS

You are required to choose three joining processes from at least two of the following
groups:
 Arc welding
 Resistance welding
 Pressure welding
 Soldering
 Other welding processes such as laser, Ion Beam, Stir welding

Your report needs to be presented in table format and the twelve most relevant aspects
need to be discussed. These could include aspects such as:
 Capital cost
 Running costs
 Requirement of skilled personnel
 Typical applications
 Others

Your report is required to be no more than two A4 pages long, excluding


cover page and references. You are to use single spacing, Calibri and a
font size of 12.

Statements made may need to be substantiated. For example, capital cost


is dependent on the size of the plant and in some cases the level of
automation. Also fully automated processes may produce high-quality,
low-cost welds but the same process may be expensive to use for single
or short run welds.

Students are expected to hand in a hard copy of the assignment noon of


Thursday 9th January 2025.
