Sec 3 students who have attended CAP in Sec 2 are NOT allowed to apply again.
Works submitted for or created at the CAP may be selected by MOE for training and research purposes.
1. Seek permission to apply for the CAP Seminar through the CAP Liaison Teacher, the designated point
of contact between CAP and the school.
2. Ask a relevant teacher to write you a personal recommendation. Your Teacher Recommender should
be able to comment on your abilities as a creative writer.
3. Read through the Infopack (https://go.gov.sg/2025-cap-sec-infopack - this file) to prepare the following
BEFORE submitting the online application
1) personal statement responses (See page 2 for questions)
2) creative writing portfolio in one PDF document (.pdf, Max 3MB)
3) email address of your CAP Liaison Teacher
4) email address of your Teacher Recommender
5. Check that you receive the confirmation email. If your school/.edu account blocks automated emails,
re-submit the application with a personal email. If you resubmit the application for any reason, include
in your name field "RESUBMITTED_<Your Name>". The assessors will use that entry and disregard
earlier ones.
6. Copy the RESPONSE ID from the confirmation email and key it into Form A (Infopack, page 3).
Provide Form A and your portfolio to your Teacher Recommender for them to fill in the form by 10 Feb
2025.
PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION
Portfolios that exceed the limit in terms of number of pieces or words are discouraged and will be
assessed at the judges’ discretion.
Intellectual Integrity
All intellectual contributions from others should be duly acknowledged in the portfolio. Please
note that plagiarism is a serious offence. Students who are found to be guilty of plagiarising the
literary works of others will be disqualified from the programme.
Genres accepted
You may submit poetry, prose or playwriting works
You may submit works from a single genre or in any combination across the genres
Number of Portfolio Pieces
Minimum number of works: 5
Maximum number of works: 8
Word limits
Prose works (short stories/novel excerpts only; expository and argumentative essays should NOT
be included) should not exceed 1,500 words per piece.
Reflections
Reflections are strongly encouraged for every literary work in the portfolio. Your reflections will
help the evaluator understand your intent and craft, which may not always be obvious from
reading works with no contextual frames.
Reflections should comment on the writing process and your aims and intentions as a writer. A
summary of the literary work is NOT a reflection on the work.
Your CAP Liaison Teacher will give you access to an SLS lesson on Reflective Writing for
Creative Writing Portfolios.
Languages accepted
Your portfolio pieces should be in ONE language only
The accepted languages are: English, Chinese, Malay or Tamil
Optional: Second Portfolio Submission
Students who wish to submit two portfolios – one in EL and one in MT – may do so in separate
applications. These students will be chosen for only one language stream.
