This role exists to ensure our entire data ecosystem has a scalable, flexible, and
resilient data architecture and modelling foundations to support data-driven business
decision-making.
As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our data
infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making across various supply
chain/retail functions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design,
implement, and maintain robust data pipelines, ensuring accurate and timely data
availability for analytics and reporting purposes.

Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Data Engineering Lead, Head of Data Engineering and
Directors to feed into and implement a comprehensive data migration and data re-
architecture strategy to lay resilient foundations across the Data function.
Designing and implementing a secure, scalable data architecture, data models and
metadata to support the business and tech strategy in leveraging reliable datasets
and creating trustworthy insights.
Designing, implementing, and overseeing the governance of our data infrastructure –
costs, access controls and security.
Embedding new data architecture principles and best practice into the business
through coaching, training, and provision of design oversight to our data engineering
team.
Working with third party partners and software providers to design, develop and
appraise new data solutions and processes.
Being the gatekeeper for customer data, aware of our usage and alignment to data
privacy standards, in collaboration with Data Governance to ensure best practice
standards are applied/maintained.
Providing data architectural expertise and advice in the design of novel data
products (BI reporting suites, data science solutions and/or analytics projects).
Collaborating and coordinating within the Tech function and with multiple business
functions across company to decrease technical debt across our operational systems
and data ecosystem.

Accountable for:
Working closely with our Data Engineering Lead to drive the adoption of DevOps and
modern code development across the Data function.
The design of our data ecosystem enterprise architecture and associated
architectural principles, data models and metadata.
Collaborating with Software Engineering and System teams to drive cross-function
visibility and reduction of technical debt across the teams.
Developing a strong knowledge of all data sources and maintaining relations with
data users/processors across company.
Essential Skills:
Strong expertise in modern code development practices, cloud data and analytics
solutions and principles.
Extensive experience working as a data architect in enterprise scale, big data
environments.
Proven experience of designing, building and delivering target state data
architectures, analytical platforms, data modelling and event sourced systems.
Proven experience in MDM, Metadata management, Data Quality and Data Lineage,
E2E Data architecture and data lifecycle including non-functional requirements and
operations management.
Extensive expertise of major Cloud data providers (GCP, AWS or Azure).
Experience with SQL and NoSQL modern data stores.
Proven experience of DevOps processes including CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code
(IaC) principles.
Proven experience working collaboratively with System and Software engineering
teams.
Demonstrable experience of critical thinking, communication and problem-solving
ability and stakeholder management.
Able to separate BAU from core objectives, managing the data engineering team
workloads effectively.
Demonstrate delivery under pressure and to deadline.
Experience working in an e-commerce/retail market would be beneficial.
Ability to understand and challenge technical designs and configurations.

Strong documentation and excellent stakeholder management skills.
Willingness to learn new tools and techniques; proactively keeping up to date with
latest thinking and practices.
Able to establish what does/doesn’t align to business/functional strategies/priorities
and communicate dependencies clearly.

and supporting the wider Data function and colleagues.
