8) A man 1.8m tall standing at the top of a telephone tower saw the top of a 10m
height building at a depression of 40 and the base of a building at a depression of 60 .
a) Find distance between tower and building?
b) What is the height of the tower?
tan 40 = 0.84

A x B
a) tan 40 =
EC = 0.84 x
BC = BE +EC
1.73x = 10+0.84x
1.73x- 0,84x = 10
0.89x = 10
x = 11.2 cm
b) BC = √3x
= 1.73×11.2
= 19.37 cm
When we decrease the height of the boy from this, we will get th height of the tower.
19.37-1.8 = 17.57 cm
9) Gopi and Goutham stands on opposite sides of a tower, they see top of a tower at
an angle of elevation 36 , 52 respectively. The distance between Gopi and
Goutham is 60 meters. Find the height of the tower?
tan 36 = 0.72
tan 52 = 1.28
C
Ans.
tan 36 =
h
h = 0.72x (1)
tan 52 = 52 36
h = 76.8-1.28x (2) A 60-x D x B
(1) = (2) 60 m
0.72x +1.28 x = 76.8
x = 38.4 cm
h = 0.72x
= 0.72×38.4
= 27.65 cm

tan 50 =
h = 1.19 x (1)
tan 25 =
h = 4.7+0.47x (2)
(1) = (2)
1.19x – 0.47x =4.7
0.72x = 4.7
x = 6.52 m
