1. Consider the following polynomials

𝑃(𝑠) = 𝑠 ! + 10𝑠 " + 20 and 𝑄(𝑠) = 25𝑠 " + 20𝑠 " + 30


Use MATLAB m-file to computer:
a. 𝑃(𝑠)𝑄(𝑠)
b. 𝑃(𝑠)/𝑄(𝑠)
c. 𝑃(−2 − 𝑗4) and 𝑄(−4)

2. Consider the following transfer functions, which correspond to the block diagrams shown in Fig. 1.

𝐺# (𝑠) = 20𝑠⁄(𝑠 " + 12𝑠 + 24) ; 𝐺" (𝑠) = (𝑠 " + 3𝑠 + 6)⁄(𝑠 ! + 15𝑠 " + 20) ;

𝐺(𝑠) = (𝑠 + 6)⁄[𝑠(𝑠 ! + 3𝑠 " + 6𝑠 + 12)] ; 𝐻(𝑠) = 20/(𝑠 + 10).

Use MATLAB to find the transfer function Y(s)/R(s) for each case.

3. Consider the block diagram shown in Fig.2, in which:

𝐺# (𝑠) = 2𝑠/(𝑠 " + 2); 𝐺" (𝑠) = 15/(𝑠 " + 5); 𝐺! (𝑠) = 2𝑠⁄(𝑠 " + 4); 𝐺$ (𝑠) = 𝑠⁄(𝑠 ! + 2𝑠 + 10) ;
𝐺$ (𝑠) = 20/(𝑠 + 1); 𝐺% (𝑠) = 2𝑠 " ⁄(𝑠 ! + 2𝑠 " + 4𝑠) and 𝐺" (𝑠) = (5𝑠 " + 10)⁄(𝑠 ! + 𝑠 " + 2).

Use MATLAB m-file to determine:


a. The overall transfer function 𝑌(𝑠)/𝑅(𝑠)
b. The poles and zeros for the overall system

4. Use MATLAB and determine a state variable representation for the following transfer functions
(without feedback) using the SS function:
