Using a variety of methods for leadership is essential in effectively running a tax
administration, in order to address complex responsibilities that ensure voluntary
taxpayer compliance. My experience will highlight how different leadership styles can
be used to achieve this strategic goal.

According to Northouse (2019) transformational leadership is a process whereby an


individual interacts with others and establishes a bond that elevates morals and
motivation in both the leader and the follower. In my experience of leading digital
transformation projects working with other leaders to encourage staff to embrace
new tax technologies to streamline service delivery. While hand holding them
through this process employees are able to test the systems and bring ideas that can
bring improvements. This approach has been effective in instilling staff commitment
to organizational changes and innovation.

Transactional leadership focuses on maintaining structure and rewarding


performance, has demonstrated efficacy in managing accountability and operational
efficiency (Yukl , 2013). By our superiors implementing performance-based incentive
system that acknowledges employees and teams that meet or exceed their targets
has motived the teams to be disciplined and focused to achieve all set targets
especially during peak tax filing seasons.

Servant leadership is entails putting followers needs first, empowering them and
supporting their development (Northouse, 2019). Team members now feel
empowered and supported because I actively listened to their issues and offered
opportunities for professional development. By collaborating with frontline personnel
during a taxpayer service engagement we were able to understand the problems
faced by taxpayers were able to provide solutions that raised customer satisfaction.
Because of this strategy, we now have a culture that is service oriented and are able
to speedily solve taxpayer queries.

In conclusion, using these approaches has assisted in promoting effective


operations, encouraging discipline and commitment thus leading to taxpayer
satisfaction. Adaptable leadership boosts team morale and puts the administration in
a position to effectively respond to changing social and regulatory demands.
