Drums are mounted on a floating, non-rotating sleeve. This is made from 4140 alloy steel and heat treated
to an average hardness of 302 Brinel!. The main shaft is manufactured using C1045 alloy shafting and
bearing journals are hardened to RKWC 50+. These shafts and sleeves give excellent life and strength.
Torque-Tite roller bearing cages are manufactured from machined rings of SAE 660 brass which is used
exclusively for bearings. This material has excellent wear resistance. Rollers used in bearings are
hardened to RKWC 58+ and ground. Torque-Tite bearings are built with exact alignment, eliminating
chatter.
Drums in catheads are made from 60-45-15 ductile iron and can be easily repaired should damage occur.
. Rope spools are cast iron and are built to give long life with minimum rope wear. Spools are
interchangeable and rope dividers are one piece.
There are no adjustments on Torque-Tite catheads, but spacers are available and may be installed after
facings have worn.
Graduated air valves are a must in operating the Torque-Tite cathode. The graduated air valve allows the
driller to control the Ciirpressure to the catheads thus giving him the desired pull required on the tong. The
type of valve to be used should allow approximately 40% of air pressure in the first 60 degree of lever
travel on the valve. The balance of lever travel will go from 40% to 100% of air pressure. Installation of
a quick release valve on the cathead as near to the clutch as possible will give instantaneous release of
the clutch.
The backup anchors on the breakout and spinning catheads are fitted with a spring with tension of
approximately 30 pounds. This tension pushes the non-rotating sleeve in the opposite direction from the
clutch driving plate. Without the proper installation of the anchor and spring tension against the anchor,
the drum may have a tendency to crawl. All Torque-Tite catheads are manufactured to rigid specifications
and assembled by people who care. Each cathead is tested and operated under field conditions. Records
on each cathodes are kept on file showing complete test results.

LUBRICANT RECOMMENDATION:
Use a general lithium base grease with a viscosity of 750 S. U. S. at 100°F. Grease should possess a very high film
strength and be resistant to water. Examples - Lubriplate #630AA or 630-2. -
Application: No more than 2 pumps of grease gun per 24 hours of operation. r
