Answer of the experiment
Compare the difference between the following tire
designation.

(205/65 R15) - (225/55 R16) - (245/45 R17)
1.

Designation Width (mm) Aspect Rim Sidewall Handling &

Ratio (%) Diameter Height Ride
(in) (mm) Characteristic

225/55 R16 205 55 16 123.75 Balance of

handling
245/45 R17 245 45 17 110.25 Sporty

cushion

Key Observations:
1. Width:
The width increases as you move from 205 to 245 mm, meaning the tires progressively
offer a larger contact patch for better grip.
2. Aspect Ratio:
The sidewall height decreases from 65% to 45%, resulting in less ex and better
handling as you move to the lower pro les.
3. Rim Diameter:
Larger rims (17 inches) typically complement lower-pro le tires for sporty aesthetics and
performance.
4. Ride Comfort vs. Handling:
205/65 R15 offers the most comfort due to its taller sidewall.
245/45 R17 is better for handling but sacri ces some ride comfort.
225/55 R16 strikes a middle ground between the two.

Practical Implications:

205/65 R15: Suitable for family cars, offering a smooth ride.
225/55 R16: Ideal for sedans or crossovers needing a balance of comfort and
performance.
45/45 R17: Common on sports sedans or performance vehicles, providing enhanced
grip and handling.

Vehicle dynamic test

About test :
Drive the car at a speed of 120 km/h, then lift your foot off the accelerator
pedal while disengaging the transmission until the car reaches a free speed
of 80 km/h and calculate the time between the two speeds, provided that
the road is level. Please try it again in the opposite direction. Repeat the
previous test again, but at a low speed between 30 km/h and 10 km/h.

Vehicle type : Daewoo Nubira II 2.0

Test results :
• From 120km/h to 80km/h:

It takes about 51 second to come down to 80 km/h opposite direction of air

and in other way it takes a 76 second in the same direction of air.
• From 30km/h to 10km/h:

It takes about 48 second to come down to 10km/h opposite direction of air

and in other way it takes a 59 second in the same direction of air.

3. Note that : the curb weight of the vehicle is 1189 kg while there
was a 3 people weighs like 210kg on it so , the total car weight was
1399kg

discuss the combination of tires and rim dimensions

and speci cations and measure the Tread Wear
Markings and Wear bars

1. Combination of Tires and Rim Dimensions

• Tire Dimensions: Tire dimensions are typically represented as a

series of numbers and letters (e.g., 225/45R17). Here’s what each
part represents:
o 225: Tire width in millimeters.
fi
fi
o 45: Aspect ratio, or the sidewall height as a percentage of the
tire’s width.
o R: Radial construction.
o 17: Diameter of the rim in inches.
5.
• Rim Speci cations: Rims are speci ed by diameter, width, and
offset:
o Diameter: Must match the tire’s inner diameter (e.g., a 17-inch
tire ts a 17-inch rim).
o Width: A tire's width should be compatible with the rim width.
For example, a 225 mm wide tire typically ts on rims 6 to 8
inches wide.
o Offset: Determines how far the wheel sticks out or in. Proper
offset ensures that the tires t within the wheel well without
rubbing.
6.
• Key Compatibility Considerations:
o Ensure the tire’s diameter matches the rim’s.
o The rim width should fall within the tire manufacturer’s
recommended range.
o Maintain load and speed ratings appropriate for your vehicle.

2. Tread Wear Markings and Wear Bars

• What Are Tread Wear Markings? Tread wear markings, also called
wear bars, are small raised sections of rubber located in the grooves
of a tire’s tread. They indicate the minimum allowable tread depth.

7.
• How to Measure Tread Depth:
o Using a Tread Depth Gauge:
▪ Insert the probe into the tire’s groove.
▪ Push the gauge base against the tread.
▪ Read the depth on the scale.

test result :
we measured a Chevrolet diesel pickup tire tread and was a range of 3.5 to
5.5mm.
Global standards:
• 6 – 8 mm tire tread: Good
• 4 – 5 mm tire tread: Acceptable
• 3 mm tire tread: Check tread depth monthly
• 1 – 2 mm tire tread: Schedule tire replacement

is exposed to both pitch and roll motions
