WHAT TO KNOW
Resources are everything that is obtained in the environment in order to
meet our needs and wants. Some of these natural resources are renewable, these
renewable resources can be replenished in days to several hundreds of years
through natural processes as long as it is not consumed faster than its renewal.
Some of our natural resources are not renewable, these non-renewable resources
have fixed quantity and scales up from millions to billions of years before it can be
renewed by the geological processes of the earth. The highest rate at which a
renewable resource can be used without reducing its available supply is called
sustainable yield. When the use of renewable resources exceeds its natural
replenishment rate, destruction of ecosystem and extinction of wildlife that makes
the supply drops is called environmental degradation.
WHAT TO DO (PROCEDURE)
Directions: List down the five recent environmental degradation you have
read or heard on the news:
2. Which of the environmental degradations you have listed should come first
in priority to deal with? Explain why?
WHAT TO KNOW
Environmental Pollution is the degradation on quality and quantity of the
natural resources. In simple words, pollution is the contamination of the
environment by a chemical or other agent such as noise, heat that is harmful to
health, survival, or activities humans or other organisms. There are two sources of
pollutants which are the point source and non-point sources.
WHAT TO DO (PROCEDURE)
Directions: Using the illustration, identify which shows a point sources and
non-point sources.

WHAT TO KNOW
Based from the previous activity, we have identified environmental
problems and its causes. In order to control these environmental problems,
government created a response through environmental laws which protects the
environments and regulates the businesses that impacts it. What are the
environmental laws that were developed in the Philippines? how can we
enhance these environmental laws? In this activity we will answer these questions.
WHAT TO DO (PROCEDURES):
Directions: Select one environmental law to read then answer the following
questions. This will be submitted in a presentation. (Powerpoint)
Guide Questions:
1. What is the law all about? Why it is created?
3. Are there any problems you have encountered while reading the contents
of the law? Which part? Please indicate those problems.
WHAT TO KNOW
Aside from the environmental law created by the government, another
solution is sustainability, It is composed the three pillars: environmental, economic
and social. Since these problems exist globally, the United Nations crafted the
Sustainable Development Goals which is collection of 17 goals designed to
achieve a more sustainable future for all. What is environmentally sustainable
society? What are the 17 goals of sustainable development?
WHAT TO DO (PROCEDURES):
PART A. Direction: Watch the video and answer the following question
below.
Guide Questions:
1. How does sustainability define in the video?
2. What are the three pillars of sustainability mentioned in the video and how
are they described in the video?
