This is a very common problem and my previous Clio (55-reg) was so afflicted tow ards the end of my six

years with it. Basically, the keys are not very well designed and can stop communicating with t he immobiliser without warning and seemingly at random. It is not usually flat f ob batteries either. For now, strike the key fob hard on the body of the car and try to start the car . I saw an AA man do that with mine and it worked. Failing that, try standing ou tside the car with the fob pointing at the steering column and push the button o n the fob four times quite slowly. This resychronises the fob, I'm told, and the car should open and start (it will let you know that it is about to cooperate b ecause the red lamp will go out when you turn the key instead of flashing rapidl y). If neither of the above works, I am afraid that a new key fob is the only answer . You can get them at Renault main dealers (be careful, they are very, very expe nsive) or I suspect that a good auto electrician will be able to sell you a nonoriginal one for much less. Finally, to my extreme annoyance and after shelling out L350.00 for two new key fobs, my car stranded me at a service station after I had stopped to get some mi lk on the way to work. As I said above, the AA man struck the key fob on the car and it started at once, indicating that Clio key fobs were one of his most popu lar callouts. Good luck. You have my symapthy because I know how tedious this problem can be. You need 2 reset it mate. Turn key to on position (one before engine cranks over ) and leave it for 30 seconds. Then turn it back? to off, leaving key in, for 30 seconds, Then turn it back to on position again for 30 seconds, then crank it o ver. This is for anyone who needs to set up a new plip or re-enter there old key first of all you need to get your personal emergancy code which can be provided by your local renault dealer. this will be a 4 digit code which can be entered t o override your emmobilizer if your plip isnt working.lets take an example. 2552 . the way u would enter this code is by keeping your finger on the central door lo oking button in your car until your emob LED flashes 2 times then release, then keep your finger on for 5 times then release and so on. after the release of you r finger on the final number the emmobilizer is off and the car can be started. right now for programing of the plip. 1. The immobilizer must be on 2. Turn on your ignition 3. Enter your emergancy code using the central looking button 4. Turn ignition off 5. Within 10 seconds after turning off the ignition, press and hold the central door locking button for more than 2 seconds(the doors should lock then unlock an d the red immobiliser light will illuminate) you only now have 15 seconds to do the following 6. press the first plip 3 times within 1.5seconds close to your plip receiver in the roof console(the doors should lock then unlock on the 3rd press) 7. repeat the whole operation if you need a second plip setting. now then i no someone who went to renault had a new battery and 2 plips set for L150. i will say no more!!
