LAB ACTIVITY #1 AIR PRESSURE & WIND_PADUA
Introduction: Air pressure and wind are fundamental components of Earth's weather systems. Air
pressure refers to the force exerted by the weight of the air in the atmosphere, while wind is the
movement of air from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. These phenomena play a
crucial role in shaping weather patterns and influencing global and local climates.
Understanding the relationship between air pressure and wind is essential for grasping how
weather systems develop and change. When differences in air pressure occur due to temperature
variations, air moves to balance these differences, creating wind. This movement not only affects
daily weather but also contributes to the formation of storms, ocean currents, and global circulation
patterns.
Objectives:
Materials:
Procedure:
1. Stretch a balloon over the opening of a plastic bottle, ensuring it’s airtight.
2. Place the bottle in the bowl of hot water and observe the balloon.
3. Move the bottle to the bowl of ice water and observe the changes.

Procedure:
1. Place a lit candle on a flat surface.
2. Tape two paper strips to the ends of a drinking straw to act as flaps.
3. Hold the straw about 10 cm above the candle so one end of the straw is over the flame
and the other is away from it.
4. Observe the movement of the paper strips.
