Continuous LTI systems

Q.No.1) Determine the following

(a) x(t)*𝛿(t) (b) x(t)*𝛿(t-t0) (c) x(t)*u(t) (b) x(t)*u(t-t0)

Q.No.2) Consider a continuous LTI system, where x(t) and y(t) are shown in Figure 1a and
Figure 1b. sketch the output for
(a) x(t-2) (b) 1x(t)

Q.No.3) Consider a continuous LTI system whose step response is given by s(t) =e -
t
u(t). Determine the output of system to input given by x(t) = u(t-1)-u(t-3).

Q.No.4) Two systems with impulse response given by h1(t) and h2(t) are connected in
cascade, where h1(t) = e-2tu(t) and h2(t) = 2e-tu(t).
a) Find the overall response h(t) = h1(t)* h2(t)
b) Determine if the overall system is BIBO stable
Q.No.5) Let y(t) be output of a continuous-time LTI system and let h(t) be its impulse
response find output of the system y'(t) if input x'(t) = dX(t).
dt

Q.No.6) Compute y(t) = x(t)*h(t) , given x(t) = u(t) and h(t) = e -atu(t); a> 0. Confirm the
cumulative property by using both forms of convolution integral.

a) y(t) = ∫ x(τ)h(t − τ)dτ
−∞

b) y(t) = ∫ ℎ(τ)𝑥(t − τ)dτ
−∞

Q.No.7) Compute the output y(t) for a continuous-time LTI system, whose impulse
response h(t) and input x(t) are given by
x(t) = eαtu(-t) and h(t) = e-αtu(t).

Q.No.8) Convolution the following two signals

x(t) = e2tu(-t) and h(t) = u(t-3).

Q.No.9) Determine the following

(a) x[n]*𝛿[n] (b) x[n]*𝛿[n-n0] (c) x[n]*u[n] (b) x[n]*u[n-n0]

Q.No.10) The impulse response h[n] of a discrete-time LTI system is given by h[n] =
𝛿[n]+ 𝛿[n-1] + 𝛿[n-2] + 𝛿[n-3]- 𝛿[n+4]- 𝛿[n-5]. Determine and sketch output
y[n] of the if x[n] = 𝛿[n-2]- 𝛿[n-4]. Do not use the convolution technique.

Q.No.11) Compute convolution sum and determine y[n] = x[n]*h[n] by

iii. Using tabulation method.
The discrete LTI systems for which y[n] is to be determined as follows:
a) x[n] = 𝛿[n-2]- 𝛿[n-4]; h[n] = [n]+ 𝛿[n-1] + 𝛿[n-2] + 𝛿[n-3]- 𝛿[n+4]- 𝛿[n-5].
b) x[n] = {1,1,0,1,1}; h[n] ={1,-2,-3,4}.
c) x[n] = {1,1,1,1}; h[n] ={1,1,1}.
d) x[n] = {1,1,1,1}; h[n] ={2,2}.

Q.No.12) Determine y[n], given x[n] = u[n]; h[n] = 𝛼𝑛u[n]; 0< 𝛼 < 1. Use graphical
method.

Q.No.13) Determine step response of a discrete LTI system whose impulse response is h[n]
= 𝛼−𝑛u[-n]; 0< 𝛼 < 1 and x[n] = u[n]. Use graphical method.
