Abstract Claustro
This research aims to find out whether there is any significant improvement in the
reading comprehension on narrative tests of Grade 6 pupils using the story mapping
technique. The tool for finding the effectiveness of the story mapping technique was a 15-
item pretest and post-test adapted from the Phil-IRI reading package. The weighted mean
was used to quantify the percentage of correct responses in items for each type of
questions. t-test was used to reveal if there is significant difference in the reading
comprehension on narrative text level between the controlled and experimental groups
exposed during the story mapping technique. Based on the result of the pretest both the
controlled and experimental groups categorized a s frustration readers. After being exposed
to the technique, the control group got a mean score of 64.96, which is equivalent to the
instructional level while the experimental group garnered a mean score of 90.48, which falls
under the independent level. The result indicated that the pupils in the experimental group
performed better than those in the control group after using the Storry Mapping Technique.
The research findings revealed that the Storry Mapping Technique has significantly improved
the reading comprehension level of the narrative text of the pupils. In addition, this method
