It is reasonable to imagine that every society needs a set of creation

myths. People must have the opportunity to explain where they came from
and how they got where they are. Creation myths often order society and put
gods, people, and animals in the places where they belong: gods above
kings, kings above the other humans, humans above animals. Creation myth
discuss where such things came from, and along with creation myth are the
common elements surrounding it.

All creation started from birth. Birth represents new life and the
beginning of new life on earth, similarly in beginning of child’s life. In Greek,
Norse, Japanese and Chinese mythology, birth started from an enormous egg
containing chaos. In Hindu and Filipino mythology believes that birth started
from God. This is related to the idea of having mother and father existing
in the creation of the world. Gaea and Uranus was the one who gave birth to
the Titans in Greek mythology. In Chinese mythology, there’s yin and yang,
while in Filipino were Malakas and Maganda which was the parent of all
human beings. Sometimes, the creation doesn’t occur until generation after
the first god came into being. Brahman is the supreme being in Hinduism.
Filipino also believe that God is the one and no other one supreme being. In
other mythologies, like Greek, Japanese, Chinese and Norse, they believe in
various gods and goddesses. He or she is what triggers the train of events
that create the world. Sometimes there are two beings, a passive and active
creator. In Greek mythology, Uranus creates life through reproduction, but
does not want new life. In contrast, with Filipinos and Hindus, God has the
only power to create life at will. Not all cultures imagine life starting on
earth . Some believe that it originated either above or below where we live
now. Still other myths claim the earth was once covered with water and the
earth was brought to the surface. These are called diver-myths. God
created sea creatures and birds. After God has prepared the world with
habitats and food, he creates animal life. According to some cultures like in
Filipino myths, humans and animals once lived together peacefully.
However because of a sin caused by the humans they are split up. This sin is
often brought on by darkness and is represented as fire. Other times the
innocence of humans is taken away by a god. Committing action, either good
or bad, Hinduism believed in good and bad karma. Once you do good, good
karma will repay you, but once you do bad, surely also the bad karma will
follow you anytime and anywhere. Just like in Filipino tradition, if you do
good, God will grant you. Yet, if you do bad, bad karma always seek you to
pay back.

We continue to wonder. Even now, as the 21st century approaches we

continue to make theories on how earth was created. They are our new
creation myths. We base our ideas on scientific evidence. However the
creation myths were based on what people saw - their observations.
