UNIT 2: HUMANS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

LESSON 5: LISTENING
I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Listen for specific information in a text about green living;
- Talk about a plan to organize a green event in their area.
2. Competences:
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and team work;
- Actively join in class activities;
- Develop presentation skills.
3. Personal qualities/ Attributes:
- Be more responsible for the environment and be able to propose plans to solve
environmental issues in their residential areas;
- Be ready to make a plan to organize a green event in their area.
II. TEACHING AIDS AND MATERIALS
- Grade 10 textbook, Unit 2, Listening;
- Computer connected to the Internet;
- Projector/ TV/ pictures and cards.
III. PROCEDURES
1. WARM-UP 5 minutes
a. Objectives:
- To stir up the atmosphere and activate Ss knowledge about protecting the
environment.
- To lead in the lesson.
b. Content:
- To watch a video about “How to take care of the environment”.
c. Expected outcomes:
- To learn the new lesson.
d. Organization:

Watch a video
- T divides class into 2 teams.
- T tells Ss this video talks about 10 ways we can take - Ss listen and do as
care of the environment. T’s instruction
- T asks 2 groups to watch a video about “How to take
care of the environment”. Which team get the correct
answer faster will get one point.
- T calls on some Ss in each groups to list some words - Ss play the game
are mentioned in the video.
- T summarizes the scores of the two teams and find the
winner. The winner are the ones whose team can guess
the most words.

* Key: save energy; use reusable items; separate and


recycle; don’t waste water; the toilet is not a rubbish bin;
have a shower instead of a bath; turn off the water tap
while brushing your teeth; reuse paper; pick up your liter
or rubbish; respect and look after animals, flowers,…;
e. Assessment:
- T observes the Ss performance, collect their answer and give feedback.
2. PRE-LISTENING: 5 minutes
a. Objectives/ Stage aim:
- To energize the classroom environment.
- To attract Ss interest in participating in the lesson.
b. Content:
- Introduce some words.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss know the meaning of some words.
- Ss know how to apply vocabulary in appropriate contexts.

VOCABULARY

1. schedule /ˈʃedjuːl/ (n): a plan that lists all the work

thing only.
E.g. The money was collected for a specific purpose.

3. donation /dəʊˈneɪʃn/ (n): money or goods that are


given to help a person or organization, or the act of
giving them.
E.g. The work of the charity is funded by voluntary
donations.

4. delivery /dɪˈlɪvəri/ (n): the act of taking goods, letters,


parcels, etc. to people's houses or places of work.
E.g. Your Shopee order is ready for delivery.

TASK 1: WORK IN PAIRS. LOOK AT THE PICTURE AND ANSWER

b. Content:
- Look at the pictures and answer the questions.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can guess the contents through the pictures.

TASK 4: WORK IN GROUPS. DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING
