Motherboard – Allows all parts of the computer to receive power and

communicate with each other.

Internal Connectors & Port

PCI Slot (Peripheral Component Interconnect) – to extend your computer’s

functions.

AGP Slot (Accelerated Graphics Port) – for 3d computer graphics.

North Bridge – manage data in CPU, connect the CPU to other primary
computer.

CPU Socket – connects cpu’s processor to the pc’s motherboard.

DIMM Slot (Dual In-line Memory Module) – This is where RAM modules are
inserted.

Battery – CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor ) A

motherboard battery serves two purposes: to feed the configuration
memory (also called CMOS) and to feed the real time clock of the
computer (the one that shows the date and the time) 1. In some systems,
the CMOS battery powers a small, super-low-power volatile memory chip
on your motherboard, which is responsible for holding on to your
motherboard’s BIOS settings2. Without a battery, your motherboard would
always boot with its factory-default BIOS settings.

Molex Power Connector – used to supply power internal computer

components.

IDE Ports (Integrated Drive Electronics) - Standard type of connection for

storage devices in a computer.

S-ATA Ports – used to connect hard drives, solid state drives, and optical
drives.

South Bridge – Chipset that handles input/output functions.

USB 2.0 Header – Ensure that the usb devices are correctly connected.

Firewire Header – Used to transfer large amounts of data, such as video

and audio, between devices quickly and effectively.

External Ports

PS/2 Connectors – To connect keyboards and mice

USB (Universal Serial Bus) Ports – connects peripherals such as keyboards,

mouse, printers, scanners, and external storage. Also for data exchange
between devices.

Parallel Ports – Same as USB (Printers and scanners)

Game Ports – used to connect Input Output device used for games such as
joysticks.

Soundcard Connector – for audio output.

Display Connector – for digital displays.

COM (Communication) Ports – Used to communicate with other devices.

Peripheral is a device, to put info into or get info from a computer.

Display screens – CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) or Flat panel display.

CRT – use vacuum tubes

Flat panel display – thinner, weigh less, and consume less power. (Not
clear as CRT)

Monochrome – display two colors, black and white

Color Screen – display between 16 and 16.7 million colors

Character-mapped display screens – display only text, letter, number, and

special characters.

Bitmapped display screens – display graphics

Printer – print characters, symbols, and perhaps graphics on paper.

Desktop printer – not mobile and portable.

Portable printer – mobile and can be carried anywhere

Impact printer – printing using striking mechanism such as print hammer:

Daisywheel printer

Dot-matrix printer

Line printer

Non-impact printer -form characters and images without direct physical

contact between printing mechanism and paper:

Laser Printer

Ink-jet printer

Bubble-jet printer

Plotters – designed to produce high-quality graphics

Audio-output devices – Produce a voice-like sounds and music and other

sounds
Video-output devices – Video conferencing and video editing

Virtual Reality – computer generated artificial intelligence, projects the

person into a sensation of 3D space.

Augmented Reality – Example is Pokemon Go

Robots – automatic device that performs functions ordinarily ascribed to

humans.

A.I. – family or technologies that develop computer system, can mimic or

stimulate human thought processes and actions.

Touch screen – intuitive computer device that works by simply touching

Light pen – a pointing device, a wand which is attached to computer to

select items or do commands on the screen

Graphics Tablet – a.k.a. digitizing tablet

Keyboard – Buttons and keys that user presses to enter data characters

Digital Camera – liquid crystal screen showing his own image being
captured.

Scanner – device for examining object in detail in order to produce

electronic image of it:

Optical scanner

Flatbed scanner

Hand-held scanner

Reading-edge scanner

Voice output scanner

Mouse – Pointing device, can select items or choose commands:

Wired

Wireless

Bluetooth

Trackball

Optical

Laser

Trackpad – uses our hand as a cursor to this pad

Video digitizers – devices that enables you to change video images.

Speech recognition devices – Devices that enables computer to hear and
record spoken words, and also to respond to spoken commands.
